I am not the only one.
I am not the only one who has said the following words:
“If the Boston Red Sox organization decides to take A-Rod over Mike Lowell, I will seriously consider not being a Red Sox fan.”
Yes, I would have taken the Alex Rodriguez of before. The A-Rod before “the slap.” Before the “mine” incident. A-Rod before all of this was a superior player — and quite frankly he still is, but would I want him on this team? HELL NO!
I would turn my back on him at the plate every time he batted. I would buy all of the New York Yankees shirts that would make to make fun of him. I would lose faith in all that is holy in baseball.
Why would a team that just won two championships in four years even consider him when the player that would be replaced in all of this would be Mike Lowell. He just won the MVP, he is an incredible clubhouse guy, he batted .324 and drove in 120 RBIs carrying this team on his back during the season. He won over any Red Sox fan who doubted getting him in the first place. He, Mike Lowell, is every thing Red Sox Nation believes in. A hard working guy who grinds everything out, leaves everything out on the field, and plays every day like his last.
THIS IS NOT ALEX RODRIGUEZ AND A-ROD IS CERTAINLY NOT A WINNER.
Mike Lowell has two World Series rings while Alex Rodriguez has none. Mike Lowell has a World Series MVP while Alex Rodriguez still cannot figure out that after the regular season ends and October baseball comes around that it is not spring training all over again.
I am incredibly serious when I say that I would turn my back on this ownership, root for another team, believe in a team that wants to win the World Series and not care about how much money they make. I certainly do not want a clubhouse cancer either. A-Rod knows nothing but how to lose, knows nothing of winning when it matters most. If he ever stepped foot in the Red Sox clubhouse with a Red Sox jersey on now, well, I would seriously consider rooting for another team so much that it would end up killing me.
I am officially starting here on this site right now the Campaign for No A-Rod in Boston and the re-signing of Mike Lowell.
Who is with me?

Yeah Coco for Dunn… How badly would their GM laugh.
And Miguel Cabrera is a better player, but I still want Lowell.

101? I think you might have jinxed it Shawn … it about died at 100 … I guess we’ll never know whether Firebranders want A-Rod or not … you guys should put up a poll … A-Rod or no A-Rod
I never going to understand why I should be scared of a 24 year old who guarantees you 300+ avg, 30+ HR’s and 100+ RBI’s (and that’s a CONSERVATIVE espectation). The hitting prowess of Miguel Cabrera is not in question. He is, simply put, one of the better hitters in the history of the game for his age. In fact, his offensive numbers are better than A-Rod’s at his age, and even more if you take into account the park in which he plays. If he “don’t care about the game”, that certainly has no visible effect over his game.
On the other hand, I don’t understand why people who don’t want A-Rod to be judged for his personality (and we could argue his insecurity problems makes him a postseason liability), judge Cabrera in those same grounds. If we want to judge a player strictly for his baseball (and I’m in favor of this notion), then M-Cab is pure gold.
You know what really scares me of Cabrera? Seeing him in a Yankee uniform.
So, If we could get him without losing Buchholz (and we have a good farm, with many posible trading chips, and the Marlins need a CF so they could take Coco as part of payment) I would be very happy.
And in defense of Adam Dunn, his strikeouts and defense has improved in the second half of the season…
One more thing: If someone object a trade For M-Cab, based in the cost in prospects, I can understand that. I’m not saying we should give the Marlins the moon. But we have to explore the posibility to see if we can work some reasonable price.
I hope I did not jynx it and I certainly do not want to give up Buccholz. God, this offseason was supposed to be a bland one. By what we have discussed here it could get very very interesting.
We are not going to trade Buchholz for anyone. We need him right now to replace Schilling, and the Sox understand very well the value of pitching.
But we have a very good farm system (much better than the yanks) and have another pieces that could be used eventually.
By the way, Buchholz and Ellsbury have always being untouchable to me. I have great hopes in these kids.
i do not think we need arod. they bring back wakefield/travaras and keep shilling. that leaves out busholtz coz you know terry will go with his old buddies.
NO A-ROD! Why flush a very promising team down the toilet? Plain and Simple, A-Rod is not a winner: he couldn’t win in Seattle and New York surrounded by future Hall of Famers, what makes you think he could be a winner in Boston?
THANK YOU ENRIQUE
About Coco for Dunn-
Coco had arguably the best defensive season of all time this year. He is, at the very worst, the 3rd best defensive outfielder in baseball. If you put him in AAAA, he will hit, and hit well. He was worth almost 9 wins last year, while Dunn was far, far less.
I love Dunn, but he has some serious holes in his game. Coco for Dunn is like Orlando Hudson for Troy Glaus, in that it looks odd at first, until you realize that Hudson is the better overall player. Coco is more valuable than Dunn, but Jacoby could easily be just as valuable.
This isn’t a ridiculous assumption, and when you factor in the money, it makes more sense.
I dont know if that trade went through I would be surprised. It does seem odd at first Sean O
You’re a god damn moralistic idiot.
Who are you talking to J Ty? And I meant to say that if that trade went through I would be totally surprised.
[...] if A-Rod thought he had it rough with the New York fans, just wait until he experiences the full wrath of the Red Sox fans. They would expect this greedy turncoat to go 4 for 4 with 4 HRs every [...]
Don’t forget that the Red Sox would become the new “Evil Empire,” throwing ridiculous amounts of money at every top player, to try to win every year, and, subsequently, tick off the fans of the other 29 teams who realize that the BoSox would be contributing to ruining the sport. Plus, how exciting would it be to see 500 intentional walks in Fenway each year?
Two free agents good, four free agents bad.
500 haha that is a lot!
As this is still posted, this seems like another good time to suggest we do whatever it takes to bring back Hanley Ramirez at short. He is power and speed. If his D doesn’t improve in a year or two, he goes to left field, where he will replicate Manny’s numbers. (Boy, will we miss Manny). If we can trade Lester/Lowrie/Masterson for J. Santana (at 140M, shades of A-Rod ), why not Hanley for alot less.
As no one is reading this anyway, I will raise the problem that Hanley will now be the face of the Marlins. With their amazing Miggy/Dontrel trades to the Tigers (where were we) and, with a new stadium in the works, Hanley is poised to be their star, their Nomar/Jim Rice for a decade. In Boston, he will be just one star in a constellation, which may hurt his production. So his psychosocial issues (like those faced by Julio & others) must be considered. However, if he wants to win a lot of WS rings, I like a Ellsbury, Pedroia, Hanley R., Papi, Manny, Mikey, Youk, Tek, Drew lineup better than the one with A-Rod, and it will last longer, and it is still workable. But I also agree that Julio could have a Tampa kind of year in 2008 (like he did at the end of 2007), in which case we don’t need to give up any more of our brilliant prospects.
