Check out Ryne and Evan’s live thoughts on the Mitchell Report starting at 1:30 p.m. here!
I thought I’d share an email exchange I had this morning with a Yankees fan friend of mine. Red Sox Nation, prepare yourself, NY fans are already whining about the integrity of the Mitchell Report
From: Ryne Crabb
To: Kristy Fasano
How excited are you for the Mitchell Report today? AP is reporting MVPs and All-Stars are on the list, and the Yankees have the most players on the list (Jeter and Rivera are NOT on the list, however)
Who do you think the biggest name will be? Piazza, Clemens, David Ortiz, Albert Pujols, Miguel Tejada, Ivan Rodriguez, Pettitte? From: Kristy Fasano

I know this is going to sound petulant because Im a Yankee fan, but I don’t expect to see any big name Bosox players on the list. I can’t imagine Big papi being called out when Mitchell is going back on the Sox payroll after all of this.
On that note, I think he is an intelligent man and if he doesnt incriminate someone on the Sox we will all think the whole report is baloney…so needless to say I am interested to see. I would be sad to see Pudge on it, everyone is expecting Clemens, and Tejada. And I think Piazza will most def be on it also.
What I am interested to see is at what level Good Old Bud is incriminated for this disintegration in baseball, and I am also very interested to see what the ramifications of this are. Do all 80 players get fined, or suspeneded; does baseball just chalk this one up to a learning experience and not punish everyone? What do you think the projected punishment for ending up on this list will be.
And…did you hear that Mitchell won’t release the document to the MLBPA until its released to the public? He said that he felt he didn’t owe them anything because of how little they cooperated with him- which made me respect the man a little more. What a way to put your foot down! I mean Im sure owners informed their players if they were on it, but still, I thought the jab was pretty poignant.
All I know is I hope he did a job well enough to be respected by the community and worthwhile. I would like to see some good come out of all this, and not have this whole thing have been a ploy to make baseball look better, when nothing is being changed. T
This is Bud’s one chance to to make up for tied All Star Games and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays…I mean Tampa Bay Rays- sorry, I know they changed their name and sometimes I don’t know how i forget that considering how eventful the celebration was and how integral Tampa is in the 30 team system….kill me.
… eventually Kristy makes some valid and interesting points, but I love how the first thing out of her mouth was questioning Mitchell’s allegiances. This ought to be a fun day!

No, sorry, wrong word choice. I meant that there are a ton of names that are not in the report due to limited sources. You think Red Sox players had no sources for steroids? You think all Sox were listed? I know there are some Yankees (Chad Curtis, Damon) that I still believe were users and just used a different supplier.
I think Senator Mitchell deserves our thanks – it is a little foolish to think that the person that brought peace to Northern Ireland would leave Red Sox players off his list because he is a director. He deserves more respect than that for all he has done. I think this goes beyond Yankees/Red Sox. He is a good and decent man. There may indeed be more Red Sox and Yankees who are not named because they were more careful. I, like Mitchell, would like to see an end to the steroid era. If I am alive twenty years from now, I don’t want to see the named players prematurely in the obituary column from cancer or other side effects from their steroid use.
Mo, I don’t think anyone thinks every roider is on that list.
Here’s why the Mitchell report is BS
Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Juan Gonzalez, Ivan Rodriquez, Brady Anderson, Albert Belle, Rapheal Palmeiro & Luis Gonzalez
These guys are NOT part of the 78 names listed. Gimme a f’king break.
but those guys aren’t yankees..
Or maybe everyone already knew that they used steroids and they got them from sources other than Jason Grimsley and the Mets clubhouse. Those were the two main sources in the report. I’m sure there are more Red Sox players who use steroids, but their sources were probably unknown to Mitchell so he couldn’t report on it. The idea that there is some Red Sox conspiracy is ridiculous. As for the report being incomplete, well no shit, you think George Mitchell has super powers that allow him to detect every steroid user ever in baseball? The idea that he could catch everyone is beyond ridiculous so stop bitching.
Every Redsox Fan will hate Joba too because He’s roger Clemens clone….. thoughts?
Clemens is afraid of bugs too?
For the most fun you may ever have reading anything ever:

I can’t even sum up the hypocrisy here. It’s overwhelming.

man Ryne was right on when he put the post up with the heading “Mitchell Report: NY fans already bitter” … most of the comments here sound like crushed NY fans getting all over this report because there are more big name Yankees in the report than Red Sox … tough huh? … either there really are more cheaters are on the Yankees or the Yankees just aren’t very good at cheating
either way its pointless to argue over … we all know this report isn’t complete and it doesn’t include every single player who ever touched the juice … it only includes guys who were found when Mitchell dug around and it’s idiotic to suggest that the report has no credability because one team has more guys in the report than another … thats not the issue
Now that we are seeing how widespread and deep rooted the problem is the issue becomes “where does baseball goe from here?” … yeah sure it’s debatable whether digging up the past is a good thing or not … IMHO this was horribly sad day for baseball and something that never needed to be brought into the public light to this extent … but we can’t undo whats been done … we can only prevent this from happening in the future … that needs to be the focus of baseball … they wanted to make a bigger deal out of it they had better show us that they are taking a firm approach so we don’t have to have the cloud of steroids covering baseball in the future … the sooner they implement some even stronger programs and they less they dig up the past the better off baseball will be going ahead
all in all a sad day tho … lets hope we can get past this quickly … I think the commisioner, the union, and the owners all agree on that … now make it happen cuz Im sick of hearing about all this … I just want baseball
Guys, there’s no point in talking with Mg. If it hurts the Yankees in any way, he cries murder. If it hurts the Red Sox in any way, he makes sure to point it out. If nothing DOESN’T hurt the Red Sox in any way, he cries murder.
Mg, you are a troll, and you’re blocked from Fire Brand now. If you want to be unblocked, my email is evan at mvn dot com. Show some class, and I’ll give you your privileges back.
That goes for everyone here. I’m going to be working on a Fire Brand comments policy over the winter.
Apologies for feeding the troll.
mr
Evan, thank you for again being the voice of sanity here.
I hope that the end result of the Report will be the truth of the danger of steroids. Look again at the list and notice how many of those players had promise that was ruined by steroid use, which is to say by greed. When Nomar played here he was not only loved, but also seen as a player who could be the Joe DiMaggio for a new generation; his numbers were that good, and his smile was that seductive. That it turned out that he was more churlish than friendly when the cameras were turned off was sad, but the injuries that laid waste to his career, and which we now can reasonably attribute to steroid use, is truly heartbreaking. Nomar could have been remembered the way Yankee fans can always remember DiMaggio, but now he never will. And that is truly a shame. Up and down the list you see players who ended up injured; and many who first were able to make millions from their misdeeds; (Jason Giambi may be the foremost poster boy in that category).
And it is sad. Two members of our World Championship 2007 Red Sox are named, and both have had one injury issue after another in recent years.
I hope that young players will learn from this, and that the discussion in the next days and weeks will focus on that. Some athletes who juiced have actually died as a result. Every team has had juiced players, I think that Mitchell wanted to make that point clear. In 10 years we should hope that the number is 0.
Thank you for banning him. His blatantly racist comments are completely uncalled for.
Yankees 4 Championship is LEGIT
First of all, Clemens was maybe the LEAST important pitcher for the Yanks in the championship years. He was TERRIBLE in the playoffs.
Yankees won a championships without Clemens in 1996 and 1998. Pettite didn’t use Hgh till 2002.
Stanton didn’t use till he was with the Mets.
David Justice was good, but please, other teams the Yanks faced had steroid guys as well.
The championships were built around legit guys…girardi, rivera, jeter, posada, brosius, oneill, etc. etc.
Those guys were all clean. The yanks had no advantage over other teams ESPECIALLY because Clemens sucked in the playoffs. I agree these guys are cheaters but the Yanks were at no advantage over other teams and their victories were legit. Just like the Sox victories were legit this year even though they probably have steroid users on their roster as well even though they haven’t been named.

Zam, I honestly don’t care. Everyone juiced, so it was a level playing field. They won with steroids. They beat 29 other teams who had steroid users.
Zam huh? lets not have any confusing me and him ok guys? lol
I agree with Evan tho … after today how can you tell? how can you try and justify your team as being “legit”? In my mind it really doesn’t matter now
It really is the “steroids era” and during this period I dont think you can say for sure any team or player or record was more “legit” than another one … think about it … Clemens used steroids to strike out guys with steroids … Bonds used steroids to hit against pitchers on steroids … you get the picture … its a mess and today we got a little picture of how deep the problem is … it’s not just greedy superstars or career AAA players … everyone from top to bottom was on this stuff
Hopefully Selig will realize now that the only thing he can do now is leave the “steroid era” in the past and move forward in an attempt to eradicate what is left and build a new atmosphere to surround the game
Is Zam also known as Mg? Hilarious comments. I just got home from college today and my Dad was beaming about all the Yankees in the Mitchell Report lol.
If anybody has taken the time to read all 409 pages of the document, there’s some funny stuff in there about them taking steroids. Clemens stood out! He switched to HGH but the needle in the stomach was too painful for him so he went back to steroids lol. Check out the document!
The whole “biased” talk about Mitchell is a load of crap. He was on the board of directors with the Sox, there’s no way he would try to be biased here. He’s in charge of saving baseball, not creating another level of dominance in Boston.
Good grief and good night!
By the way, my opinion is that this investigation is incomplete. I have a hard time believing that one guy can uncover years and years of dirt in a short time span. There’s ballplayers out there breathing a sigh of relief that they weren’t named.
Possibly some Sox players too, you never know.
Not that is matters Zam, but Clemens actually pitched very well in 98 and 99 both in the World Series and against the Red Sox in the ALCS.
Clemens was not on the Yankees in 98, and pitched poorly in 99- remember the game where he got killed in Fenway 13-1, losing to Pedro? He contributed to a championship in 2000 with great games vs Seattle and the Mets.
Evan’s comment is spot on. Everyone was using PED’s, these are just the few who were caught in connection with these 2 New York distributors.
