More tomorrow. Read the press release here.

I’m curious to see the finances of the deal, but I definitely think it was a smart move.
Keeps him in our dugout just long enough for Tek to enjoy a few more years on the field, and then succeed him :-)

That’s 3 – 5 five more good, steady growth years, allowing Tito to establish himself as one of the best in the game.
Great minds think alike, Daniel. Tito steers this uniquely cohesive, talented, well balanced team through several more WS championships.
After 2010, as Tito, Tek, Mikey, Manny, JD, Julio, maybe even Wake wind down their careers, The Captain of the Red Sox takes the helm . . . and brings back Mirabelli as a bench/catchers coach. The circle of life.

Per KNBR, the Red Sox have agreed to a minor league deal with Bartolo Colon.
Sounds like a solid insurance signing, though his health is definitely a question mark.

I’m reading it on MLBTR … we signed Bartolo Colon to a minor league deal … for no garunteed money … which is a nice perk I guess lol … I’m assuming the guy is pretty desperate considering he pretty much sucks these days … but maybe Farrell can help him out a bit and he can stay healthy … anyways it’s a chance to pick up a little more depth with very little risk
the Tito signing makes me much happier tho … good to know the guy will be around for a while longer … lets hope he can keep things rolling

I really like the Colon signing, assuming there is enough time to evaluate him before he steals a roster spot from someone more deserving. It seems, from what I’ve read, that there is really very little down-side to this. If he shows even a glimmer of his best year, and doesn’t steal starts from the kids who need a little more time in AAA, heck yeah. If he looks anything like last year, they throw him on a spit once the weather is nice enough for a team bbq.
