Breslow's been freed

...no, not from Pawtucket. From the Red Sox.

The Cleveland Indians claimed the cerebral lefty off waivers from the Red Sox today. The move frees up a 40-man spot on the Red Sox and sends the Indians a reliever us fans have been clamoring to see more of for the last couple of years.

Best of luck to Breslow.

It's about time. Watch his energy and attitude change with a spot in the Pen. Bravo! I would rather him somewhere besides Cleveland, as he can hurt us in important games. I wish he had been bundled into a trade prior to this.

When the Yale Baker's Dozen sang the National Anthem at the Yankees-Sox ST game, carrying their NYY hats, it didn't seem right, especially with Craig on the Sox. With Craig gone, southern CT can now secede from N.E.

Here's the funny thing...I'm pretty sure the Indians will now designate him for assignment and hope he slips through waivers. I doubt he will, so I think Breslow will end up somewhere other than Cleveland.

Youkilis and Drew look GREAT going into the season. Drew's driven in 7 RBI over the last 2 games coming off a .321/.429/.429 spring. And Youklis went 2-3 this morning coming off a .297/.409/.568 spring.

Wakefield looks pretty good as well, having given up 1 ER in 5.2 innings after coming off a spring in which he had an ERA of 2.00.

This isn't a good organization for a marginal pitcher to be in. Too many good pitchers, too much pressure and high expectations. And management's strategy is to stockpile as many potentially-useful pitchers as possible, and then hope like hell they don't have to use them.

If Breslow (or Hansack or Snyder) were to wind up in Oakland or Minnesota or Florida, he'd have a very good chance at launching a long and lucrative career in middle relief. Around here, he was just an insurance policy.
