How will the Mike Lowell contract turn out?

  • The contract will neither look like a steal or a disaster.
    47% of all votes
  • He won’t be worth the cash, but since when is anyone? He’ll be acceptable.
    36% of all votes
  • He got off to a bad start this year and is now DLed. This will be par for the course.
    10% of all votes
  • Mikey for MVP!
    7% of all votes

Lowell hasn’t exactly been missed because Sean Casey’s been a hitting machine. Once we get Lowell back, though, that’s going to lengthen our bench that much more. Last year our bullpen was our strength and bench was the issue. Might be the other way around this year. New poll up! Personally, I voted for “No, he’s done too much for us too well, let’s give him more time.” I’m not saying Timlin’s not fried, but he deserves more time to prove he isn’t.

Mark Bellhorn was hot during our ‘04 playoff run, why didn’t we give him more time at second base the following year?
Keith Foulke carried us throughout ‘04 as well but once he coughed up a lead in EARLY april of ‘05, he was cooked.
Why isn’t Timlin being held accountable? He has yet to prove he can pitch well, and his age isn’t really helping him not to mention his injuries the past two years. I appreciate all he’s done but it’s time we turn the reins over to a younger commodity and let them run with it. Now’s the time to find some young guns to arm our bullpen, not let over-the-hill pitchers give up multiple runs per outing.

I was thinking of suggesting the following poll question, but yours is much… gentler:
    Mike Timlin is:
    a) not ready yet
    b) well past his ‘best by’ date
    c) both
    I would have picked ‘c.’

It’s April. Timlin has pitched twice, after being on the DL. During that time we lost Breslow, Corey, Snyder from our depth chart.
Timlin still has it, and we will need it. Also, he has much to share with our young/new guns Aardsma, MDC, Paps, Oki. He is a difference maker on several levels, somewhat of a legend, and is not the only RP, old or young, to give up multiple runs this year. The guard is certainly changing, and he will be gone too soon.
In the meantime, there is still time to get young Huston Street in the Pen, and young Casey Janssen on our DL . . . and look what young Gronk is doing in AAA; and did I mention old King Kolb?
