Does Carl Crawford have Jacoby Ellsbury on his fantasy baseball team or something?
“Let him go,” said Crawford to the Providence Journal.
The Red Sox, historically never known for their speed (which makes it all the more weird that one of their nicknames in the pre-Red Sox days were ‘Speed Boys’) boasts Tommy Harper as the record-holder with 54 steals, and Harper also tells ProJo that he thinks Ellsbury will break the record.
Jacoby had 111 steals in the minor leagues over a total of 250 games, but has been reined in to 17 stolen bases in 191 at-bats for the Sox and has yet to be caught at the pro level. But this isn’t news to you. Dude can fly. He’s tied with Crawford with eight steals on the season.
Prediction: Before Jacoby’s career with the Red Sox ends, he’ll have the record in the 70s.

Let him play. Let him run. Let him score. Let him make pitchers and catchers and middle-infielders nervous, and keep us on the edge of our seats. Let him give the offense one more way to win. And while we have ‘em, let Coco, Julio and Jed run too.
