Kevin Youkilis hit his eighth homerun of the season while Coco Crisp and Jed Lowrie hit back-to-back jacks and Mike Lowell finished the Twins off with another solo homerun as Boston went on to win 5-2.
Daisuke Matsuzaka hurled seven innings with six strikeouts to his credit to earn his sixth win of the season and helped preserve the bullpen.

couldn’t agree more, but what about managin’ him a little bit more than last year to avoid his second half season slump? with Casey in our roster this year, I think we can afford this!!
Absolutely. Youk has been key to this first 1/3 success. However, he has had little rest, between 1st and 3rd base. With Casey’s bat and good defense, there is zero reason to run him into the ground. And with Moss and Carter in the wings, there is no excuse for it. Keep him fresh and watch him continue to produce. He said himself that his main goal is to be hitting .300 in Sept.
As a gold glover, hitting .300 with 20+HR and high OPS, Youk would suddenly be in the top of the 1st baseman class . . . where he has been all along. With stability at the position and maturity, his all-stardom is now obvious.
I really, really like the way Tito is balancing this outstanding four man OF. He can do the same with Casey/Youk; and with Cora/Lowrie, the infield. As the consensus is that fresh, rested, not injured = repeat, this all makes good sense.
Youkilis continues to impress in May, and much like last year, could be our team MVP through the first 6+ weeks of the season both offensively and defensively. The way in which we slid over to 3B to keep a respectable lineup in tact for most of April cannot be overstated. Now he already has eight homers on the board.
Oh, and start Lowrie. All the time. (not holding my breath)
Sorry. Meant 1/4 of the season. But 1/3 is only 20 games away, which would make keeping Youk fresh and consistent, as a dominant hitter through September, even more important.
Looks like Corey to the Pads for cash or ptbn. I feel bad the guy gets moved around so much. Seemed like a good guy who could settle into the right environment and contribute some league average numbers.
Don’t feel bad for him MR. I live in SD and with the sun, beaches, young bullpen, huge ballpark, weak hitting league, it would surprise me if this isn’t the “right environment” you speak of. Hopefully, he finally gets another chance to stick on a MLB team. And hopefully the Friars can get it going.
He’s a good guy and a good pitcher in a good town in a pitchers park in a league where he can shine a bit. Good luck in Petco, Bryan. Enjoy the most perfect climate in the USA.
