Well, I suppose you had to see this coming.
Former 2003 second round pick Abe Alvarez, a left-handed starter, made a fast rise through the system and debuted in Boston in 2004. He would also see time in 2005 and 2006, but could never put it all together after stumbling in AAA in 2006. In 13 games with one start in 2007, he had a 6.46 ERA, 11 BB, 6 K in 15.1 IP. He had clearly lost his luster, and I find it a shame because I was so excited about his prospects.
Just 25, he will find another organization to give him a chance, but his star has definitely dimmed from when he was considered a top prospect.

Huh, I had forgot Alvarez was still on the team, I thought he had already been released or traded…

I like the Sept 11 2004 article. I didn’t discover Fire Brand until the 2005 season I believe, so it’s cool to see some of the older posts. I think that Jon Papelbon guy has a future! :)

I saw Abe Alvarez’s career debut in Fenway.
God that was not a sight to see.

Corey, Tavarez, Alvarez . . . the Sox have been doing some thinking and moving people around. It’s probably not over yet.

I have a feeling it’s gonna be tough for him to get a job at this point.
