didn’t they just get a day off? how many times this season have we already said “they need a day off”? this worries me, especially so early in the season…it’d be one thing if it was August or September, but it’s MAY, people. what these guys need to do is step it up and quit whining about days off. they’ve all had days off due to the bench being so deep, which is a lot more than what other teams have.
and you know what? Okajima and Papelbon both get enough time off – they should be able to pitch an inning of work every few days without blowing a game. this flu excuse aint cuttin it for me anymore. I will quote Ferris Bueller here: “Be a MAN! Take some Pepto Bismol. I’m tired of this sh-t.”
We really do need this day off. It’s not just pitching. The offense has been just as inconsistent as the pitching and fielding. How many men did we leave on base? 760? How many in scoring position? We became the best hitting team in baseball while losing these road games. Go figure. And how often did Aardsma, Oki, Hansen, MDC, Paps inspire us to sing their praises? Repeatedly, except for a gopher ball here and there, which is all about consistency, which is all about focus and fatigue and health.
These guys are more frustrated than we are, but we know and they know the Sox are well equipped to dominate, consistently, the remaining 120 games and post-season. And we all know we will be there, enjoying the wins, the records broken and the angst.
Thanks Gerry … it helps to be reminded after weeks like this that the sky is not falling and the Boston Red Sox still have a lot of good baseball left in them
The world isn’t over people … even the best teams have bad streaks … it’s how they deal with the bad streaks that makes them the best
