Williams and Yaz? Its a total shot in the dark, but knowing the years those are the only two close I can think of…
Darn! I knew that one, but Tom A, you beat me to it by – what – six minutes?
Correct. He also pinch hit for Roger Maris.
This is the second one I’ve randomly stumbled on at lunch break soon after Evan’s posted…guess I’m just getting a little lucky (I swear I only check the site once or twice a day)
Great outing for Colon today:
6 IP, 1 hit, 4 K, 0 BB, 11 ground outs, 3 fly outs, 64 pitches, 45 for strikes.
due to the low pitch count on this one, it seems that he will make at least one more start for the Pawsox.
Hey tom – check more often! ;)
Williams and Foxx.
Sure, why not.
Haha, I try Evan!
Jc, thanks for the update. I think we’re all excited to possibly get Colon up and further strengthening our starting corps. I bet NY and many other teams with depth issues and struggling young pitchers are wishing they made an investment like Bartolo a few months ago.
The teams with small budgets envied the Sox, because we had the money and talent to bring Santana, Bedard, Haren aboard. Yet we passed on them.
During that tme frame, the same teams with small budgets, and pitching-hungry teams with big budgets, passed on Bartolo Colon (28 of them?), and the Sox took a chance, played the lottery.
Seeing his recent successes, Is it possible we have replaced the impact of Santana/Bedard/Haren/Blanton at low cost, while keeping all of the proposed trade chips intact: Lester, Buchholz, Masterson, Bowden, Ellsbury, Lowrie, Moss?
This could be your reputation-maker, Theo, and we will know in a couple of weeks.
Nevertheless, some gratuitous advice: keep Aardsma, bring up Lowrie for you-know-who, try Zinc in the Pen, find out who is giving hitting lessons to Cash and hire him/her for the team.
Definitely another encouraging performance from Colon, but it stinks that he’s not stretched out yet. Guess that means David Pauley will be back up to start on Tuesday.
In worse news, Masterson got knocked around again yesterday, which is four straight rough outings since the big league callup.
