Prev. Gm:

Milwaukee Brewers (20-21) @ Boston Red Sox (24-19)
Jeff Suppan (2-3, 4.63) @ Daisuke Matsuzaka (6-0, 2.45)

7:05 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
TV: NESN RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES:
I’ll never really forgive Jeff Suppan for his stinking up the joint in 2003 after being “re” acquired at the trade deadline, but his gaffe in Game 3 of the 2004 World Series helped gain a little redemption. Soup’s on tonight boys…eat up!
Not to totally offend the GOM (Gods of Mojo), Janet Jackson’s “Control” continues as Dice K’s entrance song…

This might get interesting if they can’t get it in. Tomorrow’s is on Fox and Sunday’s is on TBS, so none of the game times are changeable. Worse still, by my count, the Sox and Brewers have just two common and usable (based on locations before and after) off-days this year. Doubleheaders are impossible because of the game times and ESPN having full rights to Sunday Night.

Tomorrow will be tough, but some more rest today for this beat up team will be a good thing for the whole team; especially the Pen.

I just read the 5/19 Sporting News poll, which stated that 83% of SN staff, and 84% of the readers are certain that the Red Sox will not win the World Series. What a quick slide from favorite status a month ago . . . though those polls usually added the caveat “if they stay healthy”.
Ironically, the Red Sox are NOT healthy, yet are the league leaders in a bunch of categories, and just relinquished 1st place, despite the road trip, injuries, flu and fatigue. This is a positive, not a negative.
A tiimely article might discuss exactly what the Sox might need right now, if anything, to repeat. What big moves are possible? What is the price? What would we lose?
Are the Sox still the best team in baseball? It seems so.
Plus, the worst of the schedule is over, the team is catching its breath at home for a whole week, the many injuries are mending, (and those injuries enhanced our MLB depth big time: Crisp, Cash, Casey, Lowrie, Moss, vanEvery, Pauley, Masterson, Hansen). Colon is coming up, Oki is not being figured out, Youk/Pedroia/ Ellsbury/Cash continue to grow, etc.
This team that was originally projected to win it all has run the gauntlet and is stronger, better, deeper and ready to roll. Could this article consider whether Colon is replacement enough for Santana/ Haren/Bedard/ Harden; are Hansen and Aardsma replacement enough for Street/Qualls/Nathan? Has Sporting News jumped the gun?
