Top Sox prospect diagnosed with cancer
Anthony Rizzo, the 18th best prospect in the Sox system as measured by SoxProspects.com (13th best position player) has been diagnosed with Limited Stage Classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and will undergo treatment over the next two months.
Rizzo, 18, was selected in the sixth round of the 2007 draft and was hitting .373/.402/.446 for Single-A Greenville as their first baseman. Rizzo's scouting report via SoxProspects:
Tough as nails 1B with an excellent build for his age. Very good overall approach at the plate, with a good eye, bat speed, timing, and contact. Strong power to all fields. In the field, Rizzo is an average to above average defender with a solid arm. He has surprising lateral quickness for his size. Said to be a leader by example and a great teammate.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Anthony and his family at this very difficult time,’ commented Red Sox Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein. ‘We are optimistic about his recovery and look forward to the day he can return to the playing field."
Let's all hope for a speedy recovery from Rizzo so we can enjoy him playing ball in a Red Sox uniform. Good luck, Anthony!

Next year to Double-A, Mr. Rizzo? You are not alone, so talk to Mike and Jon about how to get through this, and on living large. We look forward to having 3 tough, talented, cancer survivors at Fenway, on the field at the same time.
