Milwaukee Brewers (20-22) @ Boston Red Sox (25-19) |
GAME NOTES:
The Sox get off the snide with a win in game one of the doubleheader. Tim Wakefield and the Red Sox go Bush-whacking tonight. With Okajima out and the “guns” in the pen used in game 1, let’s hope Dave Bush’s 6.06 ERA is a harbinger of an offensive display to come. A win puts the Red Sox back in a tie for the A.L. East with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ladies and gents…it seems Tim Wakefield doesn’t feel like fucking around tonight.
Lowell = clutch w/doubles
bumping this comment re: Pedroia from the end of last game’s thread:
@jc
plate discipline stats are at the bottom of that page…
he is not taking walks, his BB% this season is 5.3% down from last year 8.3%, if that’s not plate discipline i don’t know what that is.
Lowell = love
he’s not taking as many walks, but he’s leading the league in hits
*lack of plate discipline i mean.
hits are overrated, he is making more outs than last year, his job is to get on base in front of Ortiz and Manny.
man i hate those bunts.
What’s the point of bunting with a four run lead and a guy on 2nd who scores on any base hit to the outfield?
Even if Papi had gotten him home, that strategy made no sense whatsoever.
Craig Hansen officially sucks
Wow, we really really suck at baseball.
So does our defense — that’s what started it.
This one’s really turning into a clinic on defense, ain’t it?
yeah I was about to say that about the defense too, but it can’t be a coincidence that every time Hansen is out there the other team scores 7+ eras don’t happen by accident
Milwaukee might be the worst defensive team that I’ve ever seen
Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk
Now, now guys…it’d be foolhardy to automatically say we suck at baseball.
Our middle relief sucks at baseball, but playing like this with a double-header and with Ortiz slamming, Youk getting us in the lead again, and Lowell proving why re-signing him was a smart move shows we don’t suck. Think abou it. We win this game and we’re back on top.
Now the Yankees on the other hand…well it’s a long way down.
Is this actually a big league game? Seven errors? WTF?
really… unbelievable
and the sucking resumes
This is a horror show. I can’t look…
OK…there’s some D!
Very nice 4-6-3 there.
perhaps I spoke too soon
Thank you, Pedroia! Now, if only the Brewers would put in Gagne…
Didn’t you hear? Gagne lost his role as closer. Turns out Milwaukee learned the hard way just like we did.
I heard – I was hoping he’d pitch the eighth so we could tack on a dozen runs. He may not be the closer anymore, but he is still on the roster for some unknown reason.
Oh my gawd, are we really using Timlin as our closer?? We can forget about walking away with a doubleheader sweep!
Speaking of being on the roster for some unknown reason, here’s Mike Timlin. Darn.
wow we’re really daring milwaukee to win this one
2 outs, cross your fingers guys
Wow he pulled it off…huh. Hope he decides to retire on this high note and save us all grief the rest of the season.
Mike Lowell > Sean O
One defibrillator over here, please.
booya that just happened. Somehow pulled out a win with Aardsma, Hansen, Lopez, and Timlin all pitching in the same game. Have to feel good about this one.
That was all kinds of ugly, but hey, it’s a W.
That’s right, Daniel. A one-run win beats all hell out of a one-run loss.
Let’s hope they are both healthy, and then Paps vs. Street to close, just to see what we missed. That would be a real show. Can you even imagine all 4 of them on the same team for the next 5+ years? I repeat, no, actually, I perserverate, that Street and Harden have long been the answers to Gagne and Santana. It is so obvious. But with the A’s actually contending, they are no doubt off the market, or suddenly at a premium.
double headers are crazy … you never know what is gonna happen … normal strategy goes out the window lol … but they’re awesome … especially when you sweep it :)
First place again. Home for 5 more days. Daisuke and Wake looked the way the were supposed to. Another new AAA pitcher coming up, and maybe Colon, for an exciting week. Timlin seems done with S.T. More home cookin = a chance to finally get all the pieces together for the rest of the year. We’ll be fine from here on.
I find it somewhat funny that we win when we go up 4-0, but cave disastrously when we’re up 3-0. That’s twice today.
But my evening got even better about an hour after the game when I backed into a ticket to next Friday’s Sox/A’s game in Oakland. Beckett vs. Harden. Can’t wait. (Don’t get hurt tomorrow, Josh. Just don’t. K?)
