It really isn’t Lugo’s fault. Blame Theo for that ridiculous 4-year contract. Lugo, to paraphrase Gen’l Belichick, is what he is: a middling shortstop with good speed and some annoying tendencies. If we were paying him $2 million a year on a short contract, we’d just think of Lugo as a relatively harmless placeholder. As it is, every time he makes an error or hits a two-hopper to the second baseman, we all think “36 million dollars, for THIS???”
Anyone see in Gammons’ latest or MLBtraderumors that the Sox might look at Omar Vizquel? Interesting possibility given the alternatives of Lowrie or Lugo.
