5/21: Bartolo...need I say more?
| Prev. Gm:
|
Kansas City Royals (21-24) @ Boston Red Sox (29-19)
Brett Tomko (2-4, 5.32) @ Bartolo Colon (0-0, 0.00) 7:05 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA) TV: NESN RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150 |
GAME NOTES:
It will be interesting tonight to say the least. Will Manny really hold back from hitting a home run or is it all a ruse with him expecting to hit two tonight? What do you expect out of Bartolo Colon? Can the Red Sox keep the winning streak going?
What better way to honor Colon's debut than....

Well done, Bartolo. It was the Royals, but still. A few more like that, and Colon could be one heck of a steal for Theo and Co.

I think we can assume that Bartolo, unless injured, will get stronger and better. Fresh out of the box, he was strong after 5 innings, 95 - 96mph, and location too.
Will we have to say that every time we talk about him, as in a last name, like "S. Bartolo Unless Injured Colon", or "S. Bartolo if Healthy Colon? Emphatic No! I don't think he would be here, getting ready to sign his new contract, unless he was going to stay healthy. He is probably as healthy and strong now as the rest of the rotation. As Sean said, bienvenido.
So, we now have 6 super talented, super different, still evolving, starting pitchers; with Masterson, Pauley, Zinc, Bowden, Schill and others biding their time. As Tito said after the game, there is no such thing as a five pitcher rotation for a season. But I vote for Buccholz to spend a month in Pawtucket, with the pressure off, finishing his MiLB degree. We want him at full power after the ASB.
And, as this entire week has been a celebration of hope on the mound, why not also celebrate a Bullpen regaining its feet: Lopez, Hansen, Timlin, Aardsma, MDC, Oki, Paps, take a bow and accept our thanks. Glad you liked the home cookin'. Welcome back, y'all! Now keep it cookin' on the road.
