J.D. Drew and Mike Lowell both hit grandslams over the Green Monster while Daisuke Matsuzaka stayed perfect on the season improving his record to 8-0 as Boston beat the Kansas City Royals 11-8.
Boston completed the sweep of the seven game homestand behind Matsuzaka who gave up six hits, three earned runs, walked six, and struck out seven in 5 2/3’s innings of work.
Jonathan Papelbon notched his 14th save on 15 pitches after David Aardsma and Craig Hansen gave up a combined 5 earned runs in relief.
Star of the Game: Lowell
A 3-4 day at the plate where Lowell was short of hitting for the cycle, was missing the triple, deserves the nod for Star of the Game here.
Preview of Next Game:

OK guys, R&R is over. Thanks for a great and memorable home stand. The 7 game sweep is in the bank. Time to take it on the road. Any more sweeps in that lineup or rotation? 31 – 19, best in baseball. Go Champs.
Go champs indeed … but these long road trips to Cali always scare me.
I’m going on Friday night. Wake better be on his game… against Harden, he might have to be.
Here’s a scary streak: I’ve watched the Sox live 3 times in the last 2 years. JD Drew has been a late scratch in every one of those games. Hope that gets broken tomorrow.
What are the odds ManRam will hit a pair?
Thanks for the updates guys! I am in Kansas right now, having seen 6 tornadoes today, aand almost being killed when a huge wedge thing formed right over our heads. It was awesome. Our van has some damage, but more storms loom tomorrow…
I saw the second Slam on yahoo just before the first tornado hit, let’s hope for more of both tomorrow!
I hate the West Coast. Games are always so late, for crying out loud.
I think we should be discussing a more important issue…what the hell to do with that middle relief?
I mean if it wasn’t for JD and Lowell being the heroes that they are, hell even avatars of the baseball gods, our relief would’ve cost us that game. Something needs to be done.
