Boston Red Sox (31-20) @ Oakland A’s 26-23) |
GAME NOTES:
A little late with the game notes today…C’s are on, Beckett’s on the hill….fun night to kick back and watch some sports!
The old chat room link seems to have some issues…in the meantime you can chat in our Meebo room here. Just type your first message and it will prompt you for an alias.

Here’s hoping Beckett can nail this game. We need it.
Is this the same offense that made a royal disaster out of Kansas City? Really?
Duchscherer’s the only one nailing anything at the moment.
36 pitches through 3 perfect innings…ugh.
wtf is wrong with this lineup, outside of fenway they look completely dead.
How ironic is this? The Celtics are dominating tonight at an away game and the Red Sox looks like a limp noodle.
What the fuck is this? We cannot let those damn Yankees get more mojo…stop this shit now RS offense!
Yeah this game is over…
Offense doesn’t want to work and Beckett travels back in time to 2006. Way to hold on to that lead guys. Are we seriously going to give it up to Tampa Bay again?
Whoa, whoa, whoa…in no way is Beckett to blame for this loss. You’ve got to score to win.
My question is, what’s so different about every ballpark other than Fenway that makes the Sox offense utterly impotent away from Boston?
It’s the awesome hometown crowd DR, duh.
# of people watching the Sox game in the NE area after the 3rd inning: 0.
Give some credit to Oakland pitching here. Harden is one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers. He shut down the hot hitting Sox last night when Wake’s knuckler just sat there. Street is one of the most dominating closers. That explains game one.
Duchscherer as a starter keeps getting better. His shutout came very close to a perfect game, even closer to a No-No. Once again, Street dominated. On most days, this would have been a win for Becket, with 9K’s and mostly weak hits. On the road is tough. On the road against brilliant pitching is tougher. Let’s hope Blanton is not brilliant.
Yes, I love irony, but Duchscherer started as a Red Sox and brought us Doug Mirabelli. Also, the Red Sox could have, should have, had Street in 2007, and the Sox could have, should have had the very available Harden and Street any time between this year’s S.T. to Tokyo.
I am ecstatic we took a chance on Bartolo, and hung in through Jon Lester’s and Craig Hansen’s physical issues. I just wish we had taken a chance on Harden & Street. IMO, we blew these last two games months ago, and the successes of these great pitchers now puts them out of our reach.
Gerry, was there ever a legit offer on the table for huston and harden? No way that Beane gives them up for less than a boatload, and I certainly don’t trust Beane vs. Theo one-on-one.
Sean:
More than half the fans at the Coliseum were rooting for the Sox on Friday and tonight.
(Alright, I’m going to confess that I left the yard in the 8th inning on Friday for the second time ever, in part because I was hoping their luck would turn, but mostly — and embarrassingly — because I was freezing and hopeless.)
I agree with Gerry that you’ve got to hand it to Harden and Duchscherer, but this offense flat-out sucks on the West Coast (and to a degree, on the road in general).
Beane may be the master of the trade, and he certainly would have wanted a boatload, but this winter Oakland had serious concerns whether Harden would pitch again, and Street was coming off injury.
Beane was very clear about his willingness to move them as part of his building program, in which he was looking for top younger talent to re-load his depleted farm system. Crisp was an on-again off-again trade chip, because BB understood Coco’s value as a multi-tool CF. At that time, assuming a trade could have been completed, IMO he would have demanded a much smaller boatload than he would now. In exchange we would have had another Ace and a dominant backup closer. Two problems solved.
This certainly never got as far as the Santana trade, and like the Santana trade, it is spilt milk now, but the irony of the first two games is worth noting, as we have only marginally solved those two problems.
we are in first !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
none of this maters
