There are plenty of moments last year where I wanted to punch a wall watching J.D. Drew hit: the numerous and never-ending weak groundballs to second base on outside changeups, the inopportune and always fracturing double plays that seemed to murder rally after rally, the lack of power that was supposed to be a given in the #5 hole after Ortiz and Ramirez. The $60 million dollar contract appeared to be a Boras victory and Theo

    Zach,
If he goes hitless for 2 games in a row,I think I’ll have to “invite” to Tunisia during the ASB with Lugo’s family!
    STAY HOT JD!

“If Drew can continue at just a pace of .310/.420/.540 the rest of the season, he will have earned his paycheck, . . .”
I think anyone on any roster would have earned their check with those numbers. IMO, anything remotely close to that line would help the Sox repeat, as this would nearly replicate his finest years, when he was 5 and 8 years younger.
It seems the real J.D. finally arrived in Boston last Fall, with great glove, bat and cool ’salt of the earth’ attitude, and he seems ready to keep delivering. If he does, I really like your MVP idea. I would also see him at #2 when Papi returns, not because I am worried about Dustin, who will be fine soon, but because this fully adjusted JD’s high OBP plus 25HR, speed, & RBI’s after Jacoby would add a run per game, up front. This would leave a formidable Mikey, Youk, Dustin, Tek, Lowrie (oops), to keep it going.
Also, consider the probability that he will continue to hit well, against NL, along with fellow transplants Casey, Lowell, Lugo, Cora. In fact, Casey won’t even be on the road. We may have an edge here.

    0-4, 3 K
    Just goes to show you…..
I’m just kidding though it reminds me of the Celtics game last night where early in the 2nd quarter Van Gundy said exactly these words:
“I’m going out on a limb here… this game is over.”
That’s the exact moment I knew the Celtics would come back. Believe me or not.

Way to go Zach. You should know that such things aren’t wise to say with a team that’s thrived on luck/mojo/jinxes.

“Will Drew cool down dramatically in the coming weeks/months?”
If you know anything about JD Drew, you know that he’s a notoriously streaky hitter. He’ll cool down.

Machete is ready for action. Another 0-fer tonight and I’m buying plane tickets to Milwaukee. Beware, Zach, I’m comin’ for ya.
