Prev. Gm:

Boston Red Sox (42-28) @ Cincinnati Reds (33-36)
Tim Wakefield (4-4, 4.33) @ Edinson Volquez (9-2, 1.56)

3:55 PM EDT | Great American Ballpark (Cincinnati, OH)
TV: FOX RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES: The key for Wakefield today if he wants to avoid the home run that haunted Justin Masterson last night: keep the ball down. Otherwise the hanging knuckler will be flying and the Red Sox will be in trouble. He’s opposed by someone who seemingly throws every single pitch at the knees- Edinson Volquez, the Cy Young frontrunner at this point for Cincinnati. He came over in a swap for Josh Hamilton in one of the best win-win trades of all-time. Will the road woes continue?

I saw Volquez pitching in two games this season: Really impressive! he reminded me of a young Pedro, no less!

This is going to be interesting — facing Volquez with Manny out of the lineup due to sore hamstrings. Find that magic again, JD.

    Starting Lineups:
    Boston Red Sox
    1. Jacoby Ellsbury, LF
    2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
    3. J.D. Drew, RF
    4. Mike Lowell, 3B
    5. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
    6. Coco Crisp, CF
    7. Julio Lugo, SS
    8. Kevin Cash, C
    9. Tim Wakefield
That doesn’t look particularly formidable for Volquez…
    Cincinnati Reds
    1. Jay Bruce, CF
    2. Paul Janish, SS
    3. Ken Griffey Jr, RF
    4. Brandon Phillips, 2B
    5. Adam Dunn, LF
    6. Edwin Encarnacion, 3B
    7. Joey Votto, 1B
    8. Paul Bako, C
    9. Edinson Volquez, P

Can’t wait to see Volquez, I was a baliever before the regular season so had my buddy draft him in fantasy to obvious success. Our O may not be up to the task but I think it’ll be a fun game.

If the front 5 keep hitting, we can still get alot of runs in that park, while letting Manny heal for PA. 3 speedsters could help today, but unless Coco is ready to hit, and because LF is shallow and not hard to play, I would FAR prefer Moss’s bat and HR power at #6; and wouldn’t Lowrie’s bat help out now. How great if Coco and Julio get their first HR’s tonite. It could happen.

Dammit, Fox. I get the Dodgers/Tigers instead of Sox/Reds. Just because I live in NorCal doesn’t mean I’m a Dodgers fan; in fact, in my case, it means I hate them. Ugh.

Lugo was scratched with an upset stomach. Same lineup, except insert Alex Cora in the seven-hole.
Little thin on the bench now…which could become a problem if we need a pinch-hitter in the late-innings.

I think Adam Dunn just saved Zach’s life.

Haha Dan, the first thing I saw when I got home was Drew strike out, and immediately I hid behind my couch in preparation for you and your machete, Psycho style.

Nice call for the splitter, Cash, and an equally pathetic hanger, Jonathan.

How can these wins be so painful? That front five plus Coco did their jobs. Wake did his. Guess it’s time for Street? You just know JD, Mikey, Manny, Dustin want to play with those short fences tomorrow. Great homecoming for Youk and the Mayor.
