Boston Red Sox (43-28) @ Cincinnati Reds (33-37) |
GAME NOTES: Once (and still arguably is) a top prospect in all of baseball, flamethrowing Homer Bailey has run into some rough patches on his way to being a formidable major league hurler. Possibly a rushed call-up, Bailey threw 45 poor innings for the Reds in 2007, managing a 28/28 K/BB with a 5.76 ERA. This season in two starts, Bailey hasn’t been able to harness his control, either: 10 IP, 12 H, 7 BB, 3 K, 7 ER, 3 HR, 6.30 ERA, and this is coming off a so-so performance at triple-A Louisville where he should be dominating: 4.15 ERA, 1.40 WHIP this season. Can Bailey re-gain his form? Let’s hope it doesn’t start today.

The starting lineups for the Sunday afternoon rubber match. Lugo and Varitek are tentatively back in the lineup (assuming they feel fine before the game), while Manny will ride the pine for one more day.

COCO! Power surge!
Ellsbury is the best leadoff hitter in baseball, period!
And the Drew.
Drew, Drew Will Tear You Apart, Again.
Alright, I guess i better put that machete on eBay…
Hope that puts an end to Dustin’s slump.
It’s not goin’ to be that easy in PHILLY.
It hasn’t been easy at all, with so many sick and injured starters, but they have managed to build their lead in the division. This is another Cardiac-Kids team.
The World Champion Red Sox not only have a winning record in NL play and in Philly, but this team is chock full of hot long-ball hitters . . . Jacoby, Dustin, Coco, Youk, Mikey, Tek and JD, in a hitters park; a .300+ hitting bench; and the speed; and the Phils have to face Bartolo, Jon and Justin, and a really pissed off Jonathon, Oki, MDC & Craig. I wouldn’t want to be the Phillies this week. We’ll take another 2 of 3.
I had to leave the Celtics-Lakers game. I couldn’t take the Kobe and Laker worship from the announcers, one of whom, the New Yorker, even took a shot at Schill, who had taken shot at Kobe re: leadership.
Why is basketball media so surprised that Pierce, Garnett, Allen, Rondo, Posey, House, Powe are able to win games, even without Perkins. Why is Kobe (until recently maligned, but who has always been really really good, and is learning to share,) suddenly the second coming. He is not at the level of Michael or Magic or Bird or Oscar or even Cousey.
