Lance Berkman’s two-RBI double in the bottom of the eighth was the difference as Houston beat Boston 11-10.
Mike Lowell’s solo-homer in the top of the ninth made it 11-10.
Goat of the Game: Pitching staff? Maybe?
Well a combined 11 runs with Lester giving up six of them on nine hits isn’t what we were expecting here.

Alright, just take the rubber match. Brian Moehler sucks; let him know it.
    The Sox lineup:
    1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
    2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
    3. J.D. Drew, RF
    4. Manny Ramirez, LF
    5. Mike Lowell, 3B
    6. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
    7. Jason Varitek, C
    8. Julio Lugo, SS
    9. Josh Beckett, P
The Astros lineup hasn’t been announced yet.

We do well at taking rubber matches. This is our best lineup. We have a ton of runs in Houston. Beckett is our best pitcher. Moehler is not their best pitcher. Last night was another anomoly.
BTW, last night Aardsma pitched a great sixth inning: 1 – 2 – 3. Made his daddy proud. He has been inconsistent when stretched. With both Lopez & Smith pitching well, rested and available, why leave him in. If we aren’t going to use Smith, bring up someone else, like Lowrie. Lopez or Smith could have gotten to the 8th at least as well as stretching Aardsma. Hansen did pitch well, but only after he let both inherited runners from Aardsma score. Even Gordon Edes got this information wrong.
A sad night for Sox pitchers, including Charlie Zinc and
Jon Switzer in Pawtucket who, like Lester, Aardsma, Hansen, Delcarmen, ended great streaks. Tonight is a new beginning, with Beckett and a rehabbed Devern Hansack on the mounds, and both teams hitting well.
