Never a dull moment around here.

  • Houston seems to be the land where players get into it with their employers. Shawn Chacon shoved his general manager to the ground, now Manny Ramirez has shoved the traveling secretary, Jack McCormick, to the ground over a dispute about ticket allotments. ManRam wanted 16 tickets to Saturday’s game and McCormick warned he may not be able to accomodate the request, at which point Manny became agitated. (Providence Journal)
  • Security teams will follow the Red Sox to their Tampa Bay trip, starting tonight. A threat was made against black and Latino players on the Red Sox (two by name, who will have a security detail attached to them) via a letter believed to be from Memphis, Tenn. Of course, the likelihood that anything actually happens is close to nil, but it’s still a sobering thought that these fanatics are out there. (Boston Herald)

Why did we fight the civil war again? Was it really that important to keep the South?

I keep asking myself that same question, Sean.
Really, though, that Manny issue shouldn’t be taken lightly. This isn’t a player spat that occurs every once in a while and has throughout time. This is Manny shoving a Red Sox official. He does have a temper, that’s for sure.

Something’s in the air in Houston. Shawn Chacon tries to choke Ed Wade, Manny shoves a Red Sox official, the Sox can’t hit Brian Moehler. What the heck’s going on down there?
This is bringing back that Seinfeld episode with George and the Astros officials in New York.

The South is one of the nicest places in the USA. It also has active Klukkers, Aryan Nation paranoia, Kaleshnikov-rights activists, Yankee haters, and the ability to keep blacks from voting for Gore in the 2004 election . . . or for Obama in this one, for that matter.
However, these whackjobs are also prominent in Boston, L.A., Portland, Wyoming, Chicago, Salt Lake and elsewhere. The South is a great place to live.

The South may be a great place to live, but it’s not an awesome part of the world to have belonging to the US. I’ll give you Utah and Colorado Springs in exchange for Austin and Athens and then we can have two really cool countries.
Having said that, how about Manny and two AAA pitching prospects to Atlanta for Tex (with negotiating window) and a catching prospect? I love mbm, I have crazy respect for his game and his attitude. All that came to a halt when he pushed a 60+ year old part of the club to the ground.
I really hope there is more to this story, and I hope that the more is not the club kissing Manny’s ass and letting him get away with something that wasn’t deserved. I want Theo to act as judge, know all the information perfectly, and either move Manny or fire McCormick depending on who he decides was out of line.

Hey come on no hating on the South. As a New Englander living in Atlanta I actually enjoy it a lot (although I’ll probably be moving on in a year or two)

    Bob-
I was trying to make some sort of odd insomnia induced reference to zealous trade rumors and hating on other teams prospects, not actually take a jab at the South. Sorry it has incoherent and ill-formed.
I thought it would be obvious suggesting that anyone would even consider taking Utah for two of the best towns in the States. It’s like offering Barry Zito for , well, anyone.

I got you its all in good jest. I make jokes about the South all the time and even though I like it, there is plenty not to like
