A rally ended by Julio Lugo, surprise, but the Boston Red Sox scored two in the ninth on RBI’s by Brandon Moss and Jason Varitek to keep the game losing 5-4.
With the win, the Rays go ahead of the Sox in the A.L. East by a game and a half.
Goat of the Game: Julio Lugo or that stupid dome
You decide!
Next Game: Where Wakefield owns
If we needed a win in this series Wakefield would be the number I would count on.

rh batters vs Masterson: .239 OBP .263 SLG
lh batters vs Masterson: .381 OBP .484 SLG
he has given up 26 walks on the season and 19 of those walks have been to lefties, also he has given up 8 homers on 48 innings, for a sinkerballer that’s a lot, but 6 of those homers have been hit by lefties. this kid is clearly overmatched by lefties in the bigs, he needs to go back down and Buchholz should be called up to face than yanks on saturday, i don’t want to imagine what those yankee lefties will do to Masterson.

You are on target. Justin is essentially a AA rookie who skipped AAA because of injuries at Fenway, and he did better than anyone expected . . . certainly better than Hughes, Kennedy and Buchholz so far. We know he will be great. Let him finish his training. Let Buchholz, who seems to have learned what he needed to in Pawtucket, take his rightful position in the 2008 rotation, and shut down the Yankees.

Why would “that stupid dome” be the Goat? The dome helped your cause more than anything in the 9th.

I think you could make an argument for Chris Smith being the goat here as well, since his inability to throw a strike led to the eventual winning run scoring.

Goat = Lugo. He made the final out in four out of nine innings, and didn’t even come to the plate until the third. Yeesh!
