Boston tried to scratch back in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Mike Lowell, but it was not enough as the Sox lost to the Yankees 2-1.
Justin Masterson pitched will in his start against New York with 6 innings pitched, on six hits and two runs.
Goat of the Game: ???
Anyone got one because I think it was just one of those games where you say we will get you tomorrow.

I’d say Tek. Why swing at a borderline pitch on a 2-0 count with Mariano on the ropes? Please.

I’d put all three 9th inning batters into that mix. Zero outs, bases loaded. Coco swinging hard instead of bunting. Tek may as well have tried a bunt (better chance of laying something down than putting one out). And Julio, going for the fences instead of looping a single. Just one run, tie the game, the top of the order on deck, knock Mariano out of the box. I don’t understand that last inning.

What’s not to understand, gerry? It was just another stunning display of ineptitude.
Actually, what I don’t understand is why, in a game that tied the ML record for HBPs, and with the bases loaded, why weren’t our boys crowding the plate a bit more? Lugo was so far off the plate he looked like he was in the on-deck circle.
