Prev. Gm:

Boston Red Sox (57-41) @ Los Angeles Angels (58-38)
Josh Beckett (9-5, 3.94) @ Joe Saunders (12-5, 3.07)

3:55 PM EDT | Angel Stadium (Los Angeles, CA)
TV: FOX RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES: This series is seeming like an ALCS preview more and more, isn’t it? Joe Saunders vs. Josh Beckett is the second matchup this afternoon, nationally televised on FOX with Brenneman and Karros. Josh Beckett had a mediocre first half for his standards with a 3.94 ERA and looks to get back on track in the second half with a victory over a contending team. Joe Saunders looks to continue a magical first half ride in his career vs. the Red Sox.

Man, I was hoping to watch the game today, but it got preempted by the Phillies and Marlins, stupid NL city.

Youk is showing NO SIGNS of slowing down!

So far this game is on a pretty good pace. Let’s keep this up and good going Youk on starting off rather fine.

Lowrie looks real smooth out there. I don’t see why his defense has been criticized.

He looks smooth, but his range was subpar in the past and his throws were erratic. he’s worked on his throwing and he’s passable now, but he’ll never be a better than average defensive shortstop.

Still he’s a much better than average bat for a shortstop, so it makes up for whatever defensive deficiency he has

Oh craps. Beckett looks like he’s shutting down. C’mon offense! Get back into it!

    Yeah he’s shutting down…
I hate it when we never have a big lead with 2008 Beckett.

Ugh…fuck I don’t think we’re going to win this one. We should’ve pulled Becks out the second Vlad homered.

this team is utterly useless on the road, what a pathetic perfomance.

    Dear West Coast,
What did we do to you to deserve this?
    Signed,
    Boston Red Sox
Seriously guys…sad performance save for Dustin and Youk.

Lowrie’s range and throwing have looked fine so far. He made a tough play to his right earlier and all his throws have been strong and accurate in this game. The guy’s got quite an arm.

Have I mentioned I really dislike Beckett? Because I really dislike Beckett.

If he didn’t play for the Red Sox … and if he wasn’t a beast for us in the postseason … I would agree with you all the way Sean O
His preformance this season hasn’t helped his “likability” one bit either … He’s called the Ace for a reason … We need him to suck it up and dominate for us a bit in the second half … because we are going to have a rough go of it with these Rays … They have had their own struggles of late but they are still a very good team … I still think they are going to sink a bit under the pressure of a full on race for the division … but if we don’t put on that pressure they could start to pull away
A note on Lowrie’s preformance … I agree with him getting the shot late in the game … while it was rough to see him fail just giving him the chance is big for a young kid … Tito could have easily brought in a pinch hitter and then replaced him with Cora … we need him to be solid and even though he did not get the clutch hit … still a good call IMO

Ummm, given the Sox’s offense, CG, 4ER should be good enough to get a win. Except our offense likes to shut down on the road, which a problem. Beckett’s not the goat in this one; the hitters (especially Coco in the 7th and Manny in the 9th) are.

I agree Daniel … the offense lost this one … Beckett was good … but he just hasn’t turned in any CG, 0 ER, 2-hitter type gems yet this year when we really need him to … hes pitching well but not Beckett-esque … thats why Im criticizing him … the games where he pitches are that much more important just because he’s pitching … I’ve never been a big fan of his attitude but I respect his fire … when he does bring it … there’s nobody better … but he just doesn’t look like he’s bringing his all lately … maybe I’m off here … just my opinion
