Is it respect that’s keeping Varitek out of the 9th spot? Someone tell him Billy Mueller won a batting title in that spot…I’d rather see Lowrie, Crisp, Tek in the 7-8-9 order.
I’ve got the same question about keeping Ellsbury in the leadoff spot. He’s drawn like 4 walks in a month and a half and hasn’t swiped a base in God knows how long. I understand the whole “I don’t want to upset him” thing, but when a guy slumps, you gotta drop him in the order.
I’ll eat that if Jacoby gets a couple of knocks and steals a bag today, but I smell an 0-fer with a looking strikeout mixed in.
The A’s aren’t doing us any favors, so it’d be a good idea to come away with a ‘W’ in this one.

That was *almost* an unbelievable 5-4-3 double play.
Jacoby was about 6 miles behind that 2-0, 87mph fastball…
…yet somehow managed a hit into left off the pitcher.

Of course, the Diamondbacks’ Alex Romero — who entered the game with an OPS in the .500s — breaking up Rich Harden’s no-hitter in the 6th inning with his first career homerun was probably even less likely.

Is Jon Lester officially this staff’s #1 pitcher? I’m just saying…. between this year and last, he’s regainned both his mid-90s stuff and his command. Coming out of his hand the fastball and curve look identical and both have great depth. While he was sick and didn’t have his best stuff he really learned how to pitch and get himself out of jams. He’s the first relevant lefty starter I can think of since I’ve been born. I’ve always liked this guy and I think that 5 years from now he could be the best pitcher of the whole bunch (him, buchhoz, masterson, bowden). To think we almost traded him for madonna-Rod

Way to grab that spot Lowrie! 4-run lead may be a great chance to try Masterson with Paps as a safety blanket in the 9th.

I’ve never understood Seattleites. First the bad coffee, then the plaid shirts & goatees, now this. A weird bunch they are.
Yet another strong outing by Lester … its amazing how much faith I have in him right now … even more amazing considering where he was not that long ago … let’s hope he’s alright and can keep it up
Hey comon, Seattle is a pretty cool city, good music, great seafood (still not as good as New England of course) and as a caffeine fiend, I don’t really mind Starbucks or Seattles Best.
Definitely better than that shit-kicker’s-ville Oklahoma City.
I usually switch between NESN and the other station, increasingly favoring the other station. NESN squeezes more ads per second than any of them. At the beginning of an inning, NESN often comes in just as the ball is being thrown, and at the end of an inning goes to commercial precisely at the 3rd out. The other stations actually respect their viewers by getting back to the game early, and leaving well after the 3rd out, with appropriate dialogue and often film of what just happened. Seattle and other analyists are fair and full of information about the players (last night praising Lester, Lowrie, Pedroia, Tek, Jacoby, Paps, etc. in some detail) instead of talking about Wally.
And I think we will be hearing less and less about Lowrie’s range, arm accuracy, etc. If given a chance to play the position consistently will force us to retire Julio’s # for sure.
