Prev. Gm:

New York Yankees (57-45) @ Boston Red Sox (60-44)
Andy Pettitte (11-7, 3.86) @ Tim Wakefield (6-7, 3.69)

3:55 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
TV: FOX RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES: Once a comfortable separation between the Rays + Red Sox and the Yankees in the AL East, the Bombers have made their usual second half run to close to just two games behind the Red Sox for second and three behind the Rays for first in the division. To put a stop to their run and seven-game winning streak is knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, hopefully channeling some of his 2003 ALCS magic against the Yankees (if you remember anything before the Boone HR). Opposing Wake is a player that strangely resembles a horse that takes steroids, Andy Pettitte, who has been outstanding lately save one rough start….against the Red Sox! With Ponson-Lester the matchup Sunday night, the Red Sox can definitely still take two of three. Last night’s loss was deflating- losing on a dink grounder and an egregious strike three call is hard to get over so quickly- but that’s why baseball is the best sport of them all: you can come back and exact revenge the very next day. Win.

I like this lineup, although I’d like to see Jacoby instead of Crisp. Let’s rough up that roiding clown Pettitte.
Side note, a lot of people have been pushing for trying to acquire Matt Holliday, I say that he would be an unmitigated disaster, look at his home/road splits I think he’s a Coors Field creation and we’ve already seen Dante Bichette play for Boston. Also I never trust NL hitters coming to the AL (too much weak pitching and tiny ball parks in the other league)

Also I would bat Drew 5th, that’s what he’s here for.

Wonder what Nady’s going to do to us. My gut says if he has a huge 2-game series (today and tomorrow), Theo is going to make a push for another bat to keep things even.

Whenever Lugo gets back he should be benched, it’s obvious that Lowrie brings a lot more to the table.

Ok now this is the time where our offense really needs to do something it’s been not doing in many games…concentrate.

A recent “letter to the editor” in our local paper complained bitterly that Fox Florida is anti-baseball, frequently showing Seinfeld re-runs instead of games, while regularly blacking out MLB.TV games due to “scheduling conflicts”. Fortunately, today’s game is on the radio (ESPN). The paper lists it as on Fox TV, but it isn’t, and NESN and YES are, once again, blacked out. Beware Murdoch’s ability to manipulate the media through contracts, and public opinion through ‘fair and unbiased’ limbaugh, hannity, o’reilly, etc.
Radio rumors: Indians just acquired Anthony Reyes from the Dodgers for Blake. Texeira to the D’Backs?

Just up on MLBTrade Rumors. Washburn to the Yankees deal almost done. A Seattle cash dump which the Yankees pick up, with no big names to Seattle. So, the Yanks get Nady, Marte and Washburn this week, for minor considerations. Is this be nice to NYY Week? And now Nady on 3rd, Cabrera hitting, Molina HBP? This is pre-2004 Red Sox-Yankees. I thought we were over this nonsense.

I’m starting to get disgusted with this team. I mean we had a slump in the second season in 2007 but not like this.
Our batters don’t care sometimes, Manny is being more than Manny, the umps don’t like us, and we lost that 2007 flair. Guys…if trends continue we’ll be lucky to get Wild Card.

You are right about the umps not liking us, but they never have. About the batters not caring? We know that Pedroia, Youk, Mikey, Papi, JD, Lowrie are passionate about their at bats, and that Tek and Jacoby are sick to their stomachs about their slumps. But that flair, that swagger really is gone.
Could this be tied to no longer playing aggressive baseball? LaMar routinely stops runners at 3rd base instead of taking a chance, and our doubles are way down. Jacoby and Coco are neither bunting nor stealing. Even fans were shocked when JD wheeled around 3rd to score the other night. Why are we playing for the long ball again?

Now see, I completely disagree with beaning A-Rod at that point. We’re down a bunch of runs, all it does is load up the bases and give the Yankees a chance to run up the score. If we were going to bean someone, we should have done it last night to fire ourselves up and possibly come away with a come-from-behind win.
    Yankees 2, Red Sox 0.

I hope this serves as a valuable lesson to Terry Francona and the Red Sox. See this is a straight up kick in the ass and I hope this gets our act together. If not…well see you guys in 2009 then because I won’t watch people that don’t learn.
