Prev. Gm:

Los Angeles Angels (65-40) @ Boston Red Sox (61-46)
John Lackey (8-2, 3.02) @ Clay Buchholz (2-5, 5.81)

7:05 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
TV: NESN RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES: Looks like the Angels have just acquired Mark Teixeira for Casey Kotchman, and, I assume, a pitcher of some caliber. Why is this significant? The Halos just made themselves the clear-cut favorites to win their second World Series this decade. Countering the Angels tonight is Clay Buchholz, a true test for the struggling young right-hander.

comon Colin, Clay wasn’t that bad, he pitched more than 5 and it’s not like he got any help from the offense or defense, in my opinion he’s getting better.

Nope…no sympathy for Clay. He’s had his chance multiple times and the only really honorable performace I’ve seen was against TB.
    We’re here to win.

please, he’s the 5th starter not the ace, he’ll be back in Pawtucket as soon as Colon is ready. Let’s not call him a non-prospect, we’ve seen what he’s capable of.

lol Colin we’re all here to win … but the fact is Clay (along with Lester) is the future of our pitching staff … so um … you’d better hope he gets every chance (and then some) to succeed … we need him
Meanwhile … today sucked … but just of the record … Dustin Pedroia is now officially my favorite Major League baseball player … let’s hope everyone else takes his cue and starts actually playing … and soon

Perhaps I’m being to too harsh on him but I’m still apprehensive. Right now seeing him take the piss in almost every game gets incredibly disheartening. I’m willing to give him some chances there’s no doubt about that, but when the GBs are this close sometimes I think Masterson would’ve been a safer bet.
I just really hope the Yankees rally gets killed pronto.

Thank God…another crisis averted so those guido fucks in NY don’t get any satisfaction this inning.

Colin, you sound like a lot of people critiquing Jon Lester last year. The last few outings Clay has mixed in 3-4 good/dominant innings with 1-2 bad one’s. He just has to avoid the big innings and improve his consistency but he is getting close in my opinion, although you wouldn’t know it looking at his final line. Also I think the last couple starts we have seen all three pitches working at some point in the outing. Earlier this he rarely had good feel/command for two of his three pitches

And actually no…I never had beef with Jon Lester. Even in 2007 I didn’t have beef with him. I didn’t have beef because I also knew we had a more dependable pitching staff that could bail us out of a bad game or make up for a bad loss.
This year, Beckett is on and off as with Wake, the law of averages might be catching up with Dice-K, and Lester has become the dependable one. Our offense still has its punch, but the timing is off. Sometimes I feel like a Clay loss is something we cannot afford. When he gets ER he loses it. Since he’s a rookie I’ll cut him some slack but still, sometimes when I watch him I get real skittish.

I don’t mean to be so mean towards him but honestly we cannot afford to lose now. When we had a 10 GA break last year we could afford to lose. It’s like with Ellsbury. He’s got the talent but really needs to focus and despite his strikeout count in many games he still has a 2-6 record. I know he’ll get better but as of right now I can’t feel comfort with him on the mound.
Thank God Baltimore finished off the Yankee rally.

I agree Colin, but that said I like Masterson in the pen, it’s kind of like starting a rookie QB with Clay, let him take his lumps, he’s a better long-term option in the rotation than Masterson. Hopefully, Colon comes back healthy and ready to pitch so we have some insurance.
