I’d like Ohman please. Trade hansen and a C level prospect for him, he’ll make an impact in Boston
I understand this thread is directed towards the reliever market … but I just wanted to state … I am pissed about the Texiera trade and I am wondering if I’m the only one who jsut got alot more worried about our chances of repeating …
Now I understand yeah it was probably a fair deal … it’s just a rental and that Tex is gonna cost huge dollars very soon … but still … it seems like they gave up so little to gain a huge upgrade … I’m not saying I would’ve made a Youk for Tex trade as was proposed … I’m on the fence about that (like it matters now) … but it’s just frustrating to see a team who has recently been beating the crap out of us get alot better
It’s gonna be a tough run this year … let’s hope we’re up for it … Go Sox
I doubt Sherrill goes anywhere because I finally got to visit Camden this past weekend and Sherrill got the loudest ovation and there were pro-Sherrill signs. They love him there. Trading him to the Sox would make fans quite bitter.
I like Bob’s idea. Hansen might pan out on another team, but he looks cooked in Boston.
I wouldn’t mind giving Hunter Jones a shot rather then go after Ohman…or seeing if Dustin Richardson or Kris Johnson couldn’t shift to then pen in mid August and give you anything as a left specialist.
Ohman is having a nice year but his previous two were mediocre at best. With at least 5 teams in on him I worry what the cost may be. Also the whole new environment/league may not bode well for him.
The RP discussed here, IMO, aren’t “good-gagne” caliber, and are “less” than the RP’s discussed just 2 weeks ago like Marte, Fuentes, Rauch, Putz, Street, or even Qualls or Janssen last year. Our guys, including Oki, MDC and Hansen have better high sides, and most are getting their acts together.
If we aren’t going for the gold (Fuentes, Street, Marte, etc.) then I like Jared’s idea of developing the kids now. Jones, Richardson or Johnson may not be ready, but when Colon comes up, Buchholz would be a natural with Jedi for 2008; as would Zinc, Pauley, Hansack, and we never did give Smith a good look. These AAA pitchers are absolutely dominating the IL, and at least one of them could slap this Pen upside the head and energize it. If they don’t, what have we lost?
My concern isn’t so much the pain of watching the Yankees improve radically with trades (Hunter/Texeira. Nady/Rodriguez/Marte) while we’re not . . . . . .it’s that first we lost our swagger, then we lost Manny, and tonite we lost our focus, and the lineup remains in stone . . . . . . . We are neither trading nor maximizing the talent waiting in Pawtucket. We fell asleep on our laurels.
Use Lowrie. Rest Pedroia before he croaks. Give Hansen, Buchholz, maybe Ellsbury and Masterson a couple of weeks out of the pressure cooker in Pawtucket. Give Moss, Carter, Bailey, Lowrie, Zinc, Pauley, Jones, etc. a chance to shake things up and get energy flowing again.
Either make the trades or bring some kids up, but be pro-active and get out of this downward spiraling hitting, pitching rut by putting some talented new bats and arms on the field. Don’t wait till 9/1. It will be too late.
