I love how Faiaz thinks the Red Sox lost this trade big time. Disenchanted, no defense slugger aint a good thing. We were losing BECAUSE of Manny.

Hey Faiaz, dreaming that we can be better with Bay is not as pathetic as watching Girardi crying about losing his apparent life partner “Kyle fucking Farnsworth” to the Tigers.

Hey Faiaz…still managed to surpass the Rays yet? I think once you’ve done that then you can gloat. I wouldn’t be betting on 86 miserable years either, but knowing trolls like you you’re going to tout that 26 ring bullshit even though twenty of them were from before 1963, long before you existed.
Your Yankees still have to deal with the Angels. Have fun with them because I’m sure they’ll be dying to kill you.

Bay’s career BA is more than 30 points lower than Ramirez’s. Bay’s hitting a whopping .190 against lefties this season while Manny’s BA against lefties is .274

Evan, I agree that this was a solid move for the Sox, although I think they got slightly worse this season at the plate. Defensively, Manny was bad but he was great at playing the wall, something that a poor defender like Bay may take some time to learn. However, in the long run, this is a good move, as they get their Manny replacement with a minimal loss of talent compared to a large reduction in cost.
That being said, you have to understand why Yankees fans are giddy at this point. Whatever Bay does, he is unlikely to mash the Yankees as Manny did.

Dude, just go away, we get it you’re happy that the Red Sox traded Manny, good for you. You can go talk about that on a Yankee blog. I don’t understand how you channel a positive feeling such as happiness into something as negative as hate. If you’re responding to Red Sox trolls take a look in the mirror and realize all you’re doing is contributing to the problem. I know you think you’re smarter than everyone else, but you’re not doing anything to raise the level of discourse that caused you to come here in the first place.

Moshe that’s a good question and quite honestly I’ve never been more apprehensive.
Oki has his game back and Lopez is pretty effective. MDC scares the shit out of me and Timlin is on his way. This bullpen is mediocre at times and we could’ve really used another pitcher. Oh well. We’ve still got Masterson and I know you guys gave up the Farns who surprisingly was doing decently (though Girardi tearing about it was kinda meh).
Granted the Yanks got some sweet deals but then again stranger things have been known to happen.

    Evan,
I would like to apologize for my sophomoric behavior. Whether or not the Red Sox got bitten in the ass by this trade, I should not have behaved as I did.
The truth is I am really upset about the diminutive nature of my genitalia. As a 24 year old college graduate I have had plenty of time to come to terms with my lack of endowment, but all of that was put into question today when my mom, my own mom, laughed out loud when she burst in on me naked while she delivered my laundry. I’ve asked her to please knock before she comes into the basement in order to avoid precisely this scenario, but she claims her arms were full because I had so much laundry from the Eagle scout convention I just got back from on Tuesday.
Anyway, thanks guys. I’m sorry to have been sort of trollish, it just hasn’t been my day. Good luck Sox, but GOOO! Yanks.

You don’t have to assume that everyone else has the same experiences you did and still have…Just because you’re a 24 year old guy with a small penis who lives with his mom, doesn’t mean that everyone else is. This further proves my point on Redcox cunts, when they run out of things to say about their team…they start making up little offensive scenarios in hopes that it will be oh sooooo funny.

Back to trades: I think this just means we’re going to pick someone off the waiver trash heap for relief. If the team was looking for a left fielder off waivers I’d be scared, relief pitcher, meh, might as well.

I think Theo may have realized the futility of trading for relief after the failures of Sauerbeck, Williamson, and Gagne. I think if a few things go right the ‘pen could go from a weakness to a strength. Okajima has seemed (hopefully) to turn a corner and I’ve like what I’ve seen from Masterson (Yankee outing aside), Delcarmen frustrates me, but as long as he pitches low leverage situations I’m cool. Hansen is gone, which is a plus no matter how you cut it, 10 million dollar arm, 10 cent head. I’d like to keep clay in the Rotation instead of confusing him and destroying what confidence he has left, but given Colon’s injury history, why not make him a reliever? Less innings, he can gun as many fastballs as he wants. Lopez has been solid so has Aardsma. Maybe Timlin still has a bit of magic left.

Oh I love little yankee goatfuckers.
Jason Bay, yeah, .190 hitter against lefties. So we now have four outfielders who can’t hit lefties, and several that can’t really hit righties that well either. Hilarious.
And guess what his line is in interleague play? .250/.312/.450/.762, or exactly what I said he’d be hitting. So, we just traded Manny Ramirez, Craig Hansen, Brandon Moss, $7m and 2 type-A draft picks for Kevin Kouzmanoff or A.J. Pierzynski.

Yeah, but he also has a .762 OPS this season, just like our friend Jason. So we’re left with the following:
    Pedroia (good singles hitter)
    Youk (falls apart 2nd half)
    Ortiz (awesome hitter)
Mike Lowell (falls apart 2nd half)
    Jason Bay (Kevin Kouzmanoff)
JD Drew (fallen apart since June)
    Jason Varitek (.600 OPS)
Jed Lowrie/Alex Cora (maybe Lowrie can turn into Pedroia-lite)
    Jacoby Ellsbury (Juan Pierre)
And Lester, Papelbon, and 9 people who can’t pitch. And no plan for the future, no power, and no hitting prospects.

In 2307 PAs, Bay’s career OPS against RHPs is .886. In 615 PAs against LHPs, his career OPS is .904. I’m alright with that.
He’s a better fielder than Manny and he’s at least as good a hitter as Manny has been (but only because he’s been playing for the Sox – Manny will tear the cover off the ball in LA.) So on a straight player for player basis, I think we gained.
Losing Moss, not a big deal. He was never more than a 4th outfielder here. Hansen – sigh. So much raw potential, but I doubt he’ll ever figure it out. So again, not much lost there.
What this deal boils down to is the value of Bay cost controlled for 2009 vs. the value of a first round draft pick and a sandwich pick. Viewed purely from that perspective, I’d have kept Manny. But that’s not the whole story as there’s an intangible here – the impact Manny’s departure will have on the team. I think we’ll see a happier, more harmonious clubhouse. Whether that translates into wins remains to be seen.
    So stay tuned.
