Even though he walked five more batters in a start Daisuke Matsuzaka won his 15th game of the season in a 7-2 decision over the Orioles.
Jason Varitek and Kevin Youkilis carried the offense – both homered – in the win.
Star of the Game: Youk
He is continuing to hit at an MVP caliber pace right now.

Let us all think like Dustin…

    Just Win.

Alternatively, Buchholz will give 7 mostly good innings as step one in regaining his form. Nevertheless, I wish him in Pawtucket with Bowden, getting his arm slot and confidence back.
Another thought: I hear frequent talk about Youk and Pedroia as possible MVP on several MLB stations. If they keep hitting, playing excellent D, and forcing pitchers to pitch to Papi, this is more than talk.
Meanwhile I hear both Ellsbury and Lowrie mentioned for ROY. Competition can’t hurt. To win, Lowrie needs to sustain this pace at bat and continue nearly flawless coverage for Lugo and Lowell. At this point, Ellsbury must keep his OBP high while getting his average closer to .290, break Terry Harper’s 54 SB record, and keep up the web gems.
This team was built around Papi, Manny, Tek, Mike, JD. Yet, it is the latest generation of PawSoxers in consideration. What a tribute to the Sox commitment to player development and our MiLB system in general. Kudos, all. So, come on Buchholz, Lester, Masterson . . . Cy Young competition next year????
This team has been built around Papi, Manny, Tek, Mike. Ells, Lowrie, Youk were minor players, and critics wanted to send Dustin to AAA earlier this year.

Sorry. It’s late. Go Clay. Just do it.

I’m going to the Giants game tomorrow. That’s not good news. The Sox are 4-18 now this season, when I go to any MLB game. I’ll be surprised if Clay doesn’t give up seven runs in two innings.
That said, I’ll go out on a strangely optimistic limb and predict a 13-11 win for the Sox.

Lowrie has no shot at the ROY, hasn’t been a regular long enough. Really, it’s Longoria in a landslide even with the injury. Hopefully Clay will be good, but when was the last time he went 7?
Here’s my thoughts on Dice-K. He seems to execute pitches better with men on base presumably from the stretch. Why not try letting him pitch from the stretch full time? It’s a simpler motion and his windup always looked too elaborate anyways.

Joba should win ROY, Longoria should win MVP. Lowrie? Ha, that was funny. Go Yanks!
