Drew has herniated disc in back :(

  3. JaredK August 22, 2008 at 2:00 PM #

Any word on how long Drew will be out?

  4. Jc August 22, 2008 at 2:19 PM #

CORA?????, seriously this is pathetic, Drew out and Tito puts another automatic out in the lineup, why does Tito hates Casey so much? Marcum must thrilled to pitch tonight.

  5. Bob August 22, 2008 at 2:26 PM #

3 automatic outs at the bottom of the lineup and no outfield arms to speak of. It's going to be a long rest of the season.

  6. Jc August 22, 2008 at 2:32 PM #

you forgot the one at the top, Bob.

  7. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 2:36 PM #

Four consecutive automatic outs in the lineup…that ain't good.
I second the "Where's Casey?" sentiment, Jc.

  8. Bob August 22, 2008 at 2:50 PM #

I won't count Ellsbury because he seems to be turning it around. At least he has the potential to get hot and cause havoc. You know what you're getting in Cora Crisp and Varitek and it isn't good.

  9. Bob August 22, 2008 at 2:57 PM #

There's a pretty good chance we get bombed tonight. When a team faces a pitcher 3 times in 2 weeks it's usually advantage hitters. Add in the fact that this is Paul Byrd, a below average starter and the prospects get worse.

  10. Bob August 22, 2008 at 3:14 PM #

Follow Dustin to the promised land!

  11. Colin August 22, 2008 at 3:14 PM #

Yay Dusty! He is truly one of the blessed.

  12. Bob August 22, 2008 at 3:17 PM #

If I'm not mistaken I think that's his first hit ever off Marcum.

  13. Colin August 22, 2008 at 3:27 PM #

    Byrd makes me shaky though…

  14. Bob August 22, 2008 at 3:29 PM #

    Way to go Paul.

  15. Colin August 22, 2008 at 3:29 PM #

    And that really helped :

  16. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 3:34 PM #

    Bob:
That's correct. Dustin is now 1-for-12 lifetime against Marcum.
Byrd's pitches looked like batting practice that inning…I'm surprised Scutaro didn't get a hit…got some pretty good hacks in there too.

  17. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 3:41 PM #

    About those automatic outs…

  18. Colin August 22, 2008 at 3:45 PM #

Ugh…well Dusty, Ortiz, and Youk are next. Here's hoping they can produce something.

  19. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 3:46 PM #

Guess I shouldn't have gotten excited about two of them reaching in a row when there were two more to follow.

  20. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 3:57 PM #

    That was … productive.

  21. Colin August 22, 2008 at 3:59 PM #

Oh noes…could I smell an offensive slump?

  22. Colin August 22, 2008 at 4:05 PM #

But Byrd is doing decently and that's good.

  23. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 4:11 PM #

I just hope one of the automatic outs comes through here and plates the tying run.

  24. Bob August 22, 2008 at 4:12 PM #

my power went out right before the end of the 1st. Looks like I didn't miss much

  25. Colin August 22, 2008 at 4:16 PM #

HA! AO takes one for the team and now it's tied!

  26. Bob August 22, 2008 at 4:17 PM #

Who knew that the AOs would give Marcum trouble

  27. Bob August 22, 2008 at 4:17 PM #

maybe crisp can do something similar

  28. Colin August 22, 2008 at 4:19 PM #

Wow all the AOs did something!

  29. Bob August 22, 2008 at 4:21 PM #

In my eyes Pedroia can do no wrong.

  30. Bob August 22, 2008 at 4:22 PM #

Wow that's a quick hook with Marcum? I know he's given up 4 runs, but he was at 80 pitches and it's the 4th. Wonderif he's injured…

  31. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 4:27 PM #

    Whoa…didn't exactly see that coming.
Hopefully Byrd can at least deliver a quality start and give the bullpen a 2+ run cushion and 3- innings of work.

  32. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 4:28 PM #

Just saw this on Extra Bases, and it gave me a chuckle.
If Pedroia were a Blue Jay, he'd be leading the team in homers with his 13 on the year.

  33. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 4:31 PM #

    Wishful thinking.

  34. Colin August 22, 2008 at 4:33 PM #

And double damn…those annoying Yanks tied the Baltimore game.

  35. Daniel Rathman August 22, 2008 at 4:37 PM #

Interesting that Byrd has his strikeout stuff today, but is giving up a lot of hard-hit balls when the batters do make contact.

  36. Colin August 22, 2008 at 4:41 PM #

It's more or less just rotten luck. Hopefully the hitting/walking streak can stay alive.

  37. Colin August 22, 2008 at 4:44 PM #

So much for that…well maybe Byrd can give us another scoreless inning.

  38. Colin August 22, 2008 at 4:46 PM #

Oh craps. 1 out, man on 1st…

  39. Bob August 22, 2008 at 4:51 PM #

Better score, Byrd is mediocre at best

  40. Bob August 22, 2008 at 4:55 PM #

Must be that fresh Canadian air helping Tek swing

  41. Bob August 22, 2008 at 5:05 PM #

Has Gaston been possessed by Tony LaRussa? All these pitching changes with 2 outs just to get the matchup

  42. Colin August 22, 2008 at 5:45 PM #

Phew! Got out of that jam…now please Baltimore, get back in the swing of things.

  43. Colin August 22, 2008 at 5:47 PM #

AO takes another one for the team!

  44. Colin August 22, 2008 at 6:12 PM #

Well if all goes according to plan, we win, the Yanks (hopefully) lose, and guys…Chicago or Tampa Bay? I'm really torn but I'm aiming for TB to win just to help our WC chances.

  45. Bob August 22, 2008 at 6:20 PM #

Chicago, I'm not giving up on the division. In any case, if the Red Sox do their job this series they should gain a little ground on both teams

  46. Colin August 22, 2008 at 6:28 PM #

Well the O's blew their game so at least nothing changes between us and NY.
At least we have this game in our grasp.

  47. Colin August 22, 2008 at 8:30 PM #

Damn it…now we gotta put forth all that effort all over again.

  48. Jc August 22, 2008 at 10:52 PM #

great win tonight, and the stopper goes tomorrow.
