On today’s off-day, let’s see what’s being played tonight we should keep an eye on.
Baltimore Orioles @ Chicago White Sox: Currently tied 3-3 in the 12th inning, the ChiSox are a half-game ahead of the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central; Twins are one game behind the BoSox for the Wild Card.
Orioles @ White Sox: The second game of the doubleheader, Clayton Richard against Chris Waters.
Minnesota Twins @ Seattle Mariners:

Bucholz so far: 5ip 4h, 3r 0bb/6k for Portland. Still can’t avoid the big inning in double-a as all three runs scored in one inning.

I suspect Julio will be our backup middle IF soon. Hopefully, Buchholz is working to figure things out, with winning as secondary. He’s got problems and he is AA to fix them. That means four scoreless IP. It’s a start.

Guys…I’m at a dilemma. I was talking about it on the Soxaholix and it still bugs me to this moment.
I really don’t mind the Rays doing as well as they do, but of course I want to see Boston with that AL East pennant. However, with the Yankees refusing to die and when TB plays them, I want Tampa to crush New York. I know as a Sox fan I was raised to never ever root for NY, but now that Tampa is clinging tenaciously onto the AL East spot, many seem to want NY to beat Tampa when they play. I just can’t seem to accept that. As heretical as it sounds, I’d much rather have the Rays take the AL East and us the WC than EVER give NY a fighting chance. Am I a bad fan?

Nah, honestly I feel the same way. It’s okay to let the Rays have the sun (no pun intended) for the first time… lord knows they deserve it… of course this is predicated on the Sox making the playoffs. If we have to pick the Rays and Sox missing out or the Yanks and Sox making the playoffs, I’d tend to root for the Yankees.
That said, I can’t, and never will ever, root for the Yankees. I just see Tampa @ New York and I’m happy whoever loses. It’s a win-win for me.

Clay’s final line for Portland: 7ip, 5 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), o bb’s, 8 k’s. All said, pretty positive…he gave up 3 hits and 3 runs in one inning and the other run was unearned… so I’m not sure if it is a continued problem from the stretch or if they just had some balls drop in. No walks is good to see.

Ok, I’m whoring out again in search of help. If anyone happens to have 2 or 3 cheap-ish (SRO, bleachers, LF grandstand) to the Friday or Saturday game, I’d be happy to trade two tickets to the super important Rays series on 9/8 or 9/10.
Anything to keep me from stupidly refreshing redsox.com every 5 minutes hoping for a ticket release.

My feeling on the rooting situation depends on the next three days. If we lose this series then the division is probably a lost cause while the Yankees are a real threat in the Wild Card race and we need them to lose. If we win the series then we should be in position to chase the Rays for the division and I’ll root for the Yankees in that series at that point.
