Ok, the Rays are for real.

No, I don’t think there will be any surprise call ups. The Sox want to give the PawSox the chance to win the playoffs.
Hey guys just had a quick question about if anyone knows the rules on the September call ups. Considering the team will expand its rosters do you think there will be any surprises in store tomorrow when they announce their roster?
If the Rays can survive a pretty rough September (a lot more road games, while the Sox have a lot more home games), I will be extremely, extremely impressed.
They’re 100 percent capable of doing so. I have no more doubts about them as a contender. That said, the last month of the season is a great chance for the Sox to catch them with a favorable schedule. I wouldn’t mind going into the playoffs as an overlooked team, everyone seems enamored with the Rays and Angels but the Red Sox are just as good (better run differential in fact) despite a lot of injuries. If Beckett is healthy and granted that’s a big if, I’ll take the Sox top 4 over any other team.
I kept telling people that the Rays were no joke. They kept saying they’ll fall off in July or August. Well…here we are. The Rays refuse to lose and it seems only the Sox can contend with them in the AL East.
With the fucking beast Pedroia and the rest of the offense clicking, we MUST counter every move the Rays make and pray that we can gain on them. Granted we have six games against them which could really help us out (and if the Trop doesn’t kill us as it did twice) to take the AL East. In the end though, AL East or Wild Card, the Rays deserved their spot in the playoffs. The Yankees with their “divine right” certainly did not deserve a playoff spot while the Rays did, and with how we handled our injuries and shortcomings so far I think we do too.
Tito announced no call ups, as Evan said . . . and as Merloni said to prevent the domino effect of pulling from the team below, to allow the Pawsox, SeaDogs and Spinners team members to experience the intensity of post season competition. Good point. That would be something if all 3 won their leagues?
However, we still have I.L. MVP Bailey, and Van Every, with their 50+ HR, and Pauley who led the league in wins. So it might be up to Carter, Thurston, Danielson, Kottaras, Brown for power, and Bowden, Zinc for a couple of wins. Will they leave Buchholz in AA for one or two of those championship games? Probably.
