9/15: Down in Tampa
| Prev. Gm:
|
Boston Red Sox (88-61) @ Tampa Bay Rays (88-59)
Daisuke Matsuzaka (16-2, 2.97) @ Scott Kazmir (11-6, 2.99) 7:10 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA) TV: NESN RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150 |
GAME NOTES: You have to think Jonathan Papelbon will be unavailable tonight, so the bullpen probably has its work cut out for itself again as it's unlikely Dice-K will morph into a pitcher with precision control in time for the game.

SP -- Daisuke Matsuzaka
Tampa Bay Rays

Hopefully Papi will finally solve Kazmir tonight, though I'm not optimistic about that.
By the way, the umpires for this series seem to be better than the ones they had at Fenway. Jerry Meals is at HP tonight, Gary Darling at 1st, Paul Emmel at 2nd, and Jerry Crawford at 3rd.

I know...it is tough to get excited about Kazmir being wild when Dice-K is opposing him. He may see his wildness as a challenge

I'm watching the game on MLB Extra Innings and I swear the Rays announcers are some of the most biased homers in baseball. They're amusing to listen to but all they do is whine... (wishes I was in Boston and could get Don and the Remdog every game)

Not to change the subject too much, but was anyone else as surprised as I was about Ned Yost's firing? I mean I hope it works, but I think that places way too much credence into what a manager can do...particularly in 13 games. Plus all I can think of with a change this late in the season is Joe Kerrigan taking over *shudders*.

What a bullshit warning! Who's umping at home plate today? This is absolutely ridiculous...

Jerry Meals is the HP umpire. But my guess is that MLB told them to issue a warning as soon as somebody got hit to do as much as possible to avoid another brawl.

It was ridiculous though. Clearly Kazmir was not trying to hit Varitek...to quote Tek: Who'd want to hit a .230 hitter? Nothing bothers me more than when umpires decide its their business to insert themselves into ballgames. Meals' balls/strikes calls have been consistently inconsistent (say that ten times fast) as well.
Fun times...

Iwamura has six HRs all year - four against Red Sox pitching.

An old fashioned blow-out! Now lets save some for the rest of the series...

That was kind of fun. Let's do it again next inning.

Couple more runs and I might feel comfortable letting Timlin pitch an inning.

This is kind of fun. Can the team do this more often please?

Man, I just got back from a networking event. Did not expect to see this score...

I watched the first 4 innings, then jumped in the bath to read 50 pages of Red Sox Century (I'm in 1918 and things are going pretty well! don't spoil it for me). I come out, and it's still just the 6th?
We're killing their bullpen, I love it.

Ok I think this is where we need to stop with the offense. Otherwise we'll be completely depleted come Game 2 or 3 and then we'll be sucking pond water.
Enough guys...take five.

It's behind an inning for me too. For some reason they still have the video from the 7th inning though

It's taken you until NOW to read Red Sox Century? Tch, amazing book.
Yost: surprised the hell out of me. I think it was the wrong move...

Game, set, and match. Those cowbells and horns were no match for us.
