What an embarrassment, Honestly even though I’m a Sox fan this kind of pitching absolutely does not warrant us winning the AL East.

Lester, Beckett, and Dice-K should put us in pretty good shape for the playoffs … I think it’s between Byrd and Wake for the last spot … even after tonight I’m still not opposed to having Wake in there honestly … I mean his last start was fantastic … thats just the nature of the beast

How come whenever I reset my computer from top to bottom the only field that is filled in on any site I go to is the “name” field for comments on Firebrand and it always says “Sam?”
    That’s just weird.

How was that not an out? If it can give you a homerun, it should be able to give you an out.

  • Tessie's Dad says:
    September 17, 2008 at 8:49 PM

Well, I guess the logic is this: the catwalks are out of play. Out of play, fair = home run; out of play, foul = dead ball.

It sucks, as does this joke of a ballpark, but it is logical.

If they cut the catwalks to perfectly comport with the field of play I’d understand, but from the shoddy camera work I’ve seen it looks like umps have to judge whether the catwalk is in fair ground or not depending on where the ball hits. At least they don’t have to worry about seagulls while they are straining their necks.

If they cut the catwalks to comport with anything, that would mean someone was paying attention when they designed this inexcusable monstrosity, and that is clearly not the case.

Are the Rays the luckiest team in this game of inches? I talked with a Rays fan today who believes, because of their constant “Angel In The Outfield” good luck, that it is ordained that they win it. Makes sense to me.
Yesterday our best pitcher, pitching his best game of the year, couldn’t beat an average pitcher who dominated the best hitting team in the league AGAIN.
Today, the Rays beat the World Champion Red Sox who played without All-Stars Mike Lowell, J.D.Drew, Jason Bay, and with All-Star first baseman Youk playing 3rd; and they pummelled Wake who has had their number forever. My Tampa friend also said, mysteriously, they will only go so far this year, and that the Red Sox have the staying power in post season. Spooky? Also makes sense to me.

I completely agree with MR that we have highly talented “older kids” who need to be used, if for no other reason than to see if they can help the team next year, or to showcase them for a trade. Van Every in RF. Thurston at 3b instead of wasting Youk. Bailey at 1b instead of taxing still hurting Casey. Carter as OF relief. Their big bats, when comfortable at this level, could make a big difference.
And I am sooooo tired of listening to the whiney Rays announcer (”oh, the umpire has a tight strike zone for Sonnanstine. I wonder what it will be for Beckett??”), and hearing about this exciting YOUNG Rays team. Does he mean young as in Pedroia, Ellsbury, Lowrie, Moss, Lester, Masterson, Buchholz, Bowden, Hansen, Smith, Pauley, Hansack, Bailey, VanEvery?
