During an interview on WEEI’s “The Big Show” Curt Schilling blasted Manny Ramirez, saying his “level of disrepect to the teammates and people was unfathomable.” Schill also took the opportunity to express his frustration of being hurt, saying “I’ve been the biggest waste of space, I’ve been robbing payroll for the entire season, no one feels worse about not contributing than me.”
Schilling comments were delivered to Glenn Ordway, Lou Merloni, and Brian Daubach. Merloni told of a current Sox player, who when asked what it was like those last few days of Manny being Manny, said only two words, “Carl Everett.” Even the strongest supporters of Manny Ramirez, many of whom claim Theo could have repaired the relationship instead of ending it, should get chills down their back recalling the Everett Era.

Can the Red Sox sue Manny for professional malpractice? Dereliction of duty? Conduct unbecoming a left fielder?
I wish more people would speak up about it although players are notoriously mum in these situations. Schilling and Papelbon are the only two to shed any light…two guys who generally make me cringe when they open their mouths.
So Manny got offered to take the day off, but said “I’m Cal Ripken” … what a hero … the same guy who refused to pinch hit when he took days off in Boston talked his new manager in LA out of sitting him for today’s game …
I wonder who made the Everett comment? Really Wakefield is the only player on the current team that I think was around when Jurassic Carl played for the Sox. Unless someone else has any ideas…
That 2001 team also had Jason Varitek on it
Manny will still go into the hall with a B on his hat, and he gave us two world series. I’m not going to say boo about his behavior (and degradation therein), because eventually time will heal all wounds.
The Manny era is over. I’m dying to know whose era it begins.
In Schilling’s own words:
Yeah Manny was bad, that’s fine, I’m past it. The Red Sox have a serious shot at the World Series, the Dodgers do not. Manny was one of my favorites of all time so I’m not going to do a 180 on him completely.
Schilling on the other hand needs to “Shut the FUCK Up” I don’t think anyone cares what he thinks yet he continues to enlighten us all with his crackpot views. If I were Red Sox management I’d honestly sue the shit out of him for signing a contract and then mysteriously getting injured and then making a half-assed effort to rehab. Injuries don’t just pop up right before spring training, Schilling clearly knew about it beforehand. Maybe he was more concerned with stumping for John McCain than y’know doing his job which he is paid millions of dollars for.
In case you can’t tell I don’t like Schilling
Players can’t “pay back” salaries even if they wanted to. The league and union would never allow it; it’s forbidden. Besides, why should they? The teams enter into contracts with open eyes, no one forces them to sign the deal. If a player breaks his neck the day before he signs, then the contract will be torn up.
Ramirez is the best hitter of his generation, better than Arod, better than Vlad, Pujols is the next generation.
Manny Ramirez clearly never did steriods.
His swing is the sweetest thing in baseball.
He made David Ortiz a potential hall-of-famer, and everyone in boston knows it. Never has a 3rd hitter like ortiz been given so many meatballs to avoid manny.
He should win the national league MVP.
Ramirez is the best pure baseball talent since ricky henderson.
I wish he would have played for the Yankees.
manny is the best player boston has seen in the last couple decades…you have 2 world series….someone tell Curt to put a hot dog in it
Hey Bob
SHUT THE FUCK UP
Smart retort, “barbara.” I especially like how you capitalized “shut the fuck up”, which adds so much to the semantic and emotional response of the reader.
A+ all around.
My dream is a Cubs/Red Sox World Series . . . baseball’s two prodigal kids, finally home again. But a Dodgers/Red Sox series would also be lots of fun, just to beat the Manny-led Dodgers. I saw Manny’s # retired up there beside Williams and Yaz where, if he played like he is playing now for a couple more years (10 are needed), he would belong, among the best. I defended Manny right until his deliberate acting out cost us first place and put this team, his teammates, his fans well after a few more dollars. Sorry Manny, you sold us out to Boras/Mammon. You have still not apologized.
lol nice Sean … I am really surprised at all the hating going on here though … I mean cmon … sure Schilling would be a bad choice as a US ambassador but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a right to say what he wants … also just because he has a big mouth doesn’t mean he wasn’t a huge part of our breakthrough for 2 WS rings … as for Manny … yeah I hate his disrespect and the way he acted in the end but he still was a beast for us for many years … Let’s thank them both for what we were able to get out of them and move on … Sheesh
Oh I give Curt all the credit he deserves for 2004. I just wish he’s put a filter on his mouth because I don’t really care about his views on anything. As for the whole shut the fuck up thing, I was going for the Ari Gold voice, doesn’t really come out well in type. My bad.
For me, Schilling bringing this stuff up right now is about equivalent to A-Rod trumping the world series with his “news.” If Curt is going to contribute anything this year it’s going to be by shutting up about baseball and stumping for politicians. That would be a win win for me: He doesn’t distract me from baseball and gets to be the monkey on the back of candidates I am not so fond of.
