Jason Varitek’s grounder to the shortstop – eventual fielder’s choice – scored Jason Bay and ended up being the game winning run in a 4-3 win over Toronto.
Boston now has a 7 1/2 lead in the wild card race with the win.
Star of the Game: Bullpen
The Sox bullpen managed to throw three scoreless innings of relief for the win.
Next Game: Rest and win
Rest the big guns and just take the wild card because the Rays are not fading.

Another blown call against the Jays.
Another gift of runs for the Sox.
Nothing to be proud of when the umps make the difference.
Two series in a row and not a peep from MLB.
