Prev. Gm:

Cleveland Indians (79-77) @ Boston Red Sox (91-65)
Cliff Lee (22-2, 2.41) @ Tim Wakefield (9-11, 4.18)

7:05 PM EDT | Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
TV: NESN RADIO: WRKO 680, SBN 1150

GAME NOTES: The Indians have been scorching hot (okay, not hot, but really, really good) since they traded Sabathia. They’d be in first place now if they played like this all year. Beware of them next year. Tonight, Cy Young Winner Cliff Lee takes the mound attempting to take the series from the Sox. Wake, fresh off being shelled, needs a good start here so we feel better.

Ugh. Lee vs. Wakefield? Looks like we will have to wait until Wednesday to clinch.
Wake me when it’s over – no pun intended.

I’m praying we can clinch before the Yankees come to town. Correct me if I’m wrong but we can clinch if they lose tonight right?

Lowrie out with two pitches… I don’t like this. If he gets too eager this is only gonna get worse.

Manny Delcarmen enters trying to hold down a playoff clincher. 1st pitch, In play no out. I didn’t even flinch.

So we couldn’t win with Beckett against Zach Jackson, but we pinned loss #3 on Cliff Lee with Wake on the mound. Whatever.
    THEY’RE IN!!!

Let’s not overlook the most important part of all this: the Yankees were eliminated. No Yankees in October. None.

Good now we can all relax and get healthy and ready to do what we always do to the Angels this time of year.

Wakefield outpitched Lee. Is this a prelude to hitting all the great pitchers in the playoffs? Sounds good.
Wake turns in performances like this far too often for any of us to be surprised. He was a mainstay for most of the year.
Ells keeps his streak going. Pedroia, Papi, Youk, Bay look well tuned. Why didn’t Carter PH for Cash in the 8th??? At least we will get a chance to see some more of Bailey, Van Every, Carter, Hansack, Pauley as those few starters who remain healthy get a well deserved rest. It feels good to exhale.
