Robinson Cano drove in five RBI’s and the New York Yankees took it to the Boston Red Sox 19-8.
Daisuke Matsuzaka was scratched from his start due to the weather and it showed in the box score.
David Pauley who made the spot start suffered the loss over 2 2/3’s innings of work on six hits and seven runs (six earned).
Goat of the Game: Pitching
Just a bad day on the hill.
Next Game: Rest
With no chance at the division title just rest everyone.

The last time the Sox lost at Fenway to the Yankees by the score of 19-8, the Red Sox didn’t lose again for the rest of the year.
    This is a good omen.

We didn’t need the East anyway. Let Tampa have its moment in the sun. October Sox are a different breed than Season Sox.

Tito emphasized the relative importance of beating the Yankees and winning the division in a slippery, cold game by throwing a team starring Bailey, Carter, Hansack, Kottaras, Pauley, Smith, VanEvery, Velasquez, with Ellsbury, Lowrie. That’s 10 rookies against the Yanks in September . . . a difficult concept.
And those rookies did pretty darn well. It may have seemed like S.T., but it’s not. These guys have been getting MLB experience during a run to the playoffs, and are auditioning for The Show, with Boston or elsewhere. They will be on a different plane S.T. 2009, and the Sox will be deeper still.
