Things went so sour in Boston, the team insisted on medical tests when he said he could not play. He didn’t always run hard, and there was suspicion he struck out on purpose.
“I love to hit, to compete and would never do that; that’s just people looking for stuff,” he says, while admitting he now runs everything out in L.A., “and I don’t even have to think about it.”
That suggests he wasn’t running everything out in Boston, and while he tries to explain, he’s interrupted. There’s no explanation for such behavior after signing a contract and being paid $20 million a year to give his all.
“You’re right,” he says. “You’re right.”

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Manny.

On second thought, please do let it hit you on the way out.

Is there any historical precendence for this? I can’t really think of “hall of fame player loved in city by fans, wins multiple championships, number ready for retirement, etc decides to leave team and ruin all relationships within six months”
Vince Carter with the Raptors (w/o the championsihps) maybe? I am drawing a blank

What a brat. The saddest part is that he’ll get far more than $20 million next year, so his (Boras’ ?) strategy will have worked.

I cannot believe there are people who want the Dodgers (outside of LA fans of course) to beat the Cubs in the NLDS.
    Fucking crush them Chicago. Please.

Ryne says it. Manny, to fans, was an amalgum of Ted Williams and Louis Tiant . . . incredible talent, lots of fun. He was to be our next HOFer, our next retired #, our next source of legends. Now he is just toxic.
I still think MLB should investigate the collusion between Boras and Manny, and ban him from baseball. I do not look forward to similar sleazy strategies when it comes to other players from Tek to Jacoby. Don’t they feel dirty in his presence???
Perhaps the best MLB strategy of all is to only sign Boras clients for half what he demands (notice I didn’t say “what he asks”), or not at all. The owners wouldnt even have to talk to each other about it, just respond to posts like this..

    Frankie,
He’s all of those things, plus a liar and a cheat. MLB needs to investigate the collusion aspect, fine him, warn him or make him sit on his ass for a year or more before he can come back and show his “dedication” to the sport. I used to love Manny and defend him no matter what. Unless he comes up with some substantial accusations as to the hardships he endured in Boston he needs to be punished for breach of contract.

    Hey Frankie,
Don’t come in here blasting Boston fans just because your Dodgers are riding the coattails of Manny’s sudden motivational surge. A good reason you’re even in the playoffs is because of him and you should be damn well grateful we felt like dumping him off to you.
We’re grateful that he helped us win 2 WS championships have no doubts about that, but the fact he just decided to play like shit and then turn on the juices the second he hit LA is a spit in the face to Fenway Faithful. That right there is our beef.

    Frankie,
Enjoy it while it lasts. When Ned Colletti doesn’t give Manny the 4 years $100 million that he requests or he bats .150 in the postseason and the snarky L.A. columnists rip him, you’ll see the same thing from the Manny/Boras partnership in L.A.
Don’t get us wrong, we loved Manny and would be the first to admit that he gave something special to Boston. However, what he did to the Red Sox organization and its fans is despicable. In no other profession can you stop trying/working and continue to make $20 million per year. That’s where we are coming from.

I’m grateful with Manny for the old times. But I’m very happy he’s gonne at last. Maybe the guy is talented, but what he did is just inexcusable.
Besides, I’m extremely happy with Jason Bay. I will take him over Manny any day: he is an amazing hitter, with much better defense, discipline and heart than Manny, and 7 years younger!
Congratulatios to Theo for a great trade. Now, just lock Bay for another 5 years.

I am so over this whole Manny thing, I rarely think about him anymore unless it’s being crammed down my throat by the media. I’m fine letting bygones be bygones.
By the way this is a great quote: “If your happiness depends on Boston winning or losing, you have to get a life”
