Tied at 5-5, J. D. Drew smacked a two-run homer off of Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez giving the Boston Red Sox the lead for good at 7-5.
In his second inning of relief, Jonathan Papelbon closed the door for his first post season win.
Boston takes a 2-0 advantage to Fenway Park on Sunday with Josh Beckett toeing the rubber for the Red sox.

Drew is obvious here but on a side note David Ortiz started the rally in the ninth with a double to lead off the inning on the very first pitch of his at-bat.

I got some shit for saying it in game 1 but I still wouldn’t mind seeing MDC over Masterson in game 3. Again, a light hitting lefty getting a huge hit off him. MDC has the change-up to get lefties and he pitched well down the stretch.
No goats unless you lose. If you play poorly but still manage to win, you get a razzie, that’s all. Besides, as you freely admit, Dice-K did exactly what you (and everyone else) expected of him, so where’s the problem?
Drew’s the star, all right, but Youk was HUGE at 3B. He made two key plays in the ninth that may have saved the day.
I think we should be thrilled to get this win … I said after the 4th and 5th that I felt like we should be down by 5 just because we kept digging holes inning after inning … but we managed to escape with minimal damage time and again … we walked a tightrope and didn’t fall off … so goes every Dice-K start so it seems … bend but don’t break … now it’s up to us to break the Angels at the Fens with Beckett on the hill … We’re looking good … lets finish … Go Sox!
I have to apologise to J.D Drew. I thought he was not ready. I was completely wrong about him…
But, Shawn, don’t you think J-Bay deserves mention here? He was, without a doubt, an essential part of this victory. In fact, he is the player of the series, so far.
By the way, I also think Dice-K, deserves to be named goat of the game. We did not lose, but he almost provoke me a nervous breakdown!
for me the hero of this game is the doctor in the ER ’cause after masterson gave that triple to Figgins, I punched the wall so bad I end up with 2 broken fingers and didn’t finished the game! Was it worth it? HELL YES!
but folks, we have to admit that this team is built deferently than the previous ones ( yes the manny factor play a big part in it): all year long we saw a player or 2 steppin’ up for a strech : JD when Papi went down, Youk when manny left, Dustin… and now it’s Bay time: do people realise that we took 2 in OC with our 2 2008 MVPs not showin’ up at the plate (but still playin’ gold glove defense) and our 2007 MVP not showin’ up litterly?

radio, you are on target (except for your fist). With a few key moves, this is the same 2007 World Champs, only better, deeper, stronger, and more courageous BECAUSE of their constant injuries and illnesses.
There were no goats in this game. Actually, Daisuke’s pitching style is good for the heart. It doesn’t feel that way during the game, but it is a muscle, and needs exercise, and no one gives it more exercise than Daisuke; kind of like shock therapy. But, an Ace by any other name is still an Ace, and didn’t he leave with the lead?
