The Angels were expected to win at least one game in this series, but after falling behind 0-2 in the ALDS, the Boston Red Sox did not expect that win to come tonight.
Mike Napoli homered twice and scored the game winning run as Los Angeles won 5-4 in 12 innings.
Jered Weaver earned his first career post season victory with two innings out of the pen.
Josh Beckett looked shaky all night giving up nine hits, four runs, four walks, six strikeouts, and two home runs on nine innings pitched in the no-decision.
Star of the Game: Sorry guys but,
I know this is supposed to be a goat section but Napoli deserves it tonight. He single handily kept the Angels in the game after a fielding miscue in center that resulted in three runs off the bat of Jacoby Ellsbury. Those two homers off of Beckett was the difference in this game.
Also, simply put, that first homer off of Beckett was mighty impressive.

Beckett wasn’t hurt, he just sucked. And I know Pedroia is scorching the ball, but come on dude.
I’m mildly frustrated, but not as much as I will be tomorrow when I’m training people while totally zombified.
Man….five hours of sitting at Fenway watching playoff baseball is sweet but we gotta start capitalizing on our chances late in the game. Enough with the veteran respect, Lowell needed to be pinch-hit for multiple times but Francona stuck with him and it ended every rally possible. He hasn’t even sniffed a hit this series…
That being said, hooray for another game to attend tomorrow! Now I’m going to go to sleep, someone wake me up an hour before the first pitch.

If any other pitcher had given up 9 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings, leaving a very long night for the bullpen, he would have been named the goat for sure. Beckett deserves the benefit of the doubt for what he’s done in the past, and I fully expect him to do better next time — but if you’re going to assign a goat for every Red Sox loss, you’ve got to hang the horns on him.
I really hope Terry cuts the bullshit today. Lowell has to sit down. He is doing so very little given his injuries.
Pedroia has to strategize where he’s going to place his damn hits. It’s frustrating to watch every single crack end up right towards an Angel. Our offense is the key to winning Game 4…and we need it.
If I were to pick a goat it definitely was Beckett.

If he had thrown strikes to Rivera, also in the first, instead of walking in a run, we win.
If he had the basic common sense to not give Napoli a chance to hit a second HR, we win.
