The Red Sox are in a great position to win the Peavy sweepstakes due to their depth and the Padres’ asking price. That may seem like a steep price — Bowden, Masterson and Anderson for Peavy — but for a 27-year old who is as immensely talented as he is, it’s completely logical.

Look, I understand that the sexy stat is 9-0 … that’s nine straight elimination games the Red Sox have won in the ALCS while facing elimination, but let’s not delude ourselves. It’s 9-1 in the playoffs. I’m not trying to intimate we have no shot of winning the ALCS, but 9-0 is a flawed statistic. So let’s stop quoting it.
