Craig Shipley, the Red Sox vice president for international scouting, spent just under two hours talking to 22-year old Junichi Tazawa and presented him with a $6 million offer. It’s unclear whether or not the offer is a major-league deal or not.

Awesome. Good risk. I don’t know how valuable he can be over here but it would definently be interesting to see how he developes in our farm system. Hope the offer is strong enough.
The site ate my post. I will try again.
Awesome is a good word for this guy. However, I hope the Sox don’t jeapordize their position of leadership and respect in Japan by this one signing. The Japanese League seems really ticked off that Juni Tazawa and MLB are bypassing their draft system. Signing Juni could be shortsighted.
That said, it would be more awesome if we got word that an offer was made for Kenshin Kawamaki. This is especially true with rumors of Wake planning to retire due to shoulder issues. That would leave two holes in a five man rotation . . . with just Buchholz and Bowden to fill them, whom everyone seems to want to trade. Kawakami may fit perfectly in Wake’s #5 slot in April, leaving us only one hole to fill.
In this regard, does anyone else see the value of signing either Ben Sheets (age 30) or Brad Penny (age 31) or Pedro (age 37) to a short term, generous but incentivized contract that would cost far less now and long term than CC, AJ or D.Lowe? IMO, as they have all recently been Aces and injured, they each may again pitch like an Ace when healthy. If hurt again, by the time they are injured Buchholz or Bowden should be ready to make their moves.
