Linked in the menu above, we now have a organizational depth chart available for your perusal. This is not a top prospects chart. Some of our top prospects are further away from the majors than some of the fringe guys. This is in order of people that we could dip into the pool of over the next couple years. Obviously this is subject to trades and free agent signings. Here is a link to the Mark Teixeira article I penned about why we should not sign him; we are working on getting a link to “previous entries” at the bottom of the front page, but until then, it is hard to find articles pushed off the front page unless you click on Archives.

How can you consider Yema on this organizational chart. He didn’t play at all in 2008 and played only part of the season in 2007.

A combination of age, level and position played.

Love the depth chart . . . however, where is Joe Thurston. He led the team in BA with .316, played clean 2b, stole 19 bases, was the PawSox MVP, and could wind up replacing Alex or Julio. If this is not a ‘prospects’ chart, then the next man up needs be the next best player. Joe has all the credentials to be listed as the next best 2nd baseman in line.

    Gerry,
I believe Thurston is a minor league free agent. Please correct me if this is not the case.

I will check it out. I can’t believe they would let him go as he hits his stride. It is incomprehensible to bring a once hot talent back to being hot, to name him MVP and team sparkplug, and then just pull the plug. At least include the guy in a trade. I am thinking of Craig Breslow’s 1.91ERA. I am also thinking that either Alex or Julio will be bench IF in 2009. Too bad, we could have used his bat, glove, speed and spark.

I like the depth chart, but I have a suggestion: make the players’ names into clickable links to lists of recent articles referring to that player, or, better yet (if you’re feeling really ambitious), create player profile pages with article links, stats, photos, etc. that would be accessed via the depth chart.

    TD-
Great idea about making it clickable links to lists of recent articles. I’ll get on that.

This is an excellent reference- I learned a lot researching the names I didn’t recognize.
    A couple ideas:
-clickable links to players’ b-ref. pages
    -season ages in parentheses
-different fonts to denote different playing levels
    Nice job!

Thanks for the suggestions, Mike. I’ll refine the depth chart to make it better.

Evan. Checked all the usual suspects: PawSox, MiLB, Rosters, Joe’s info, etc., but find no reference to him being a FA. Maybe I didn’t find it, but if he is not a FA, his credentials certainly make him #2 at 2b.
