New Poll Question:
Better of Worse: Jason Bay’s 2009 Home Run Total?
Just a simple over/under on Bay’s home run total.  Do you think Bay will top the 30 HR mark in 2009?  Vote in the poll to the left and give your community projection for Bay here.
Previous Poll Results:
What is your biggest concern heading into Spring Training?
Looks like Sean O wrote a little script to game the vote as Lowell’s health tops the list of concerns heading into Spring Training.  All in all, not the worst thing to have as your biggest question mark heading into the season.

I guessed 30 before I saw the poll. So I had to choose the “30+” answer.

Normally I don’t bother with nit-picky proofreading and grammatical corrections, but since there’s an error in the title, and it repeats in the poll at right, I thought you’d want to fix it: Better _OR_ Worse, right? (Or is it some pun I’m not getting?)

You didn’t get the pun? I thought it was obvious? ;)
Thanks for the catch…never be shy to point things out.

I don’t think Lowell’s health is a concern at all; he’s going to be pretty bad regardless. The biggest concern is the one that wasn’t listed, about whether Ortiz goes back to being Papi, or if he’s a .280/.380/.520 guy instead of .300/.400/.640.
Just like you said in the podcast, without Ortiz as an anchor, this offense is screwed. As it is I expect an awful lot of 4-3 ballgames this year, and we’d better hope we end up with more 4s than 3s.

Continuing not to be shy, then: how about fixing the same error in the poll header and in the body of this post? ;-)
BTW, I picked 30+ because I’ve become infected with the boundless optimism on this site…

I’m still trying to figure out why you don’t consider Mike Lowell one of your favorite players. He is unique:
    1. a 4x All Star,
    2. 2007 WS giant (again),
    3. GG 3b, still with good hands and arm.
    4. the definition of grit (cancer, hip) and playing hurt,
    5. a role model, good guy, family man, community asset.
    6. clubhouse glue on a team with about 15 young guys and several big egos, who could use the glue, support & leadership.
    6. who, BATTING 7TH, will hit about .280/20/100/.350/.460/ .810.
I know stats can be found which demean his (or anyone’s) accomplishments but, assuming the health and mobility that his doctors predict, why not support a guy like Mike to anchor 3b, work with Lowrie, Pedroia and Youk, bat 7th at a decent clip, and stabilize the clubhouse, as his career winds down?
