Yesterday, left-hander Kris Johnson, 24, drew the start against Northeastern University, my alma mater. Johnson turned in a solid year in 2008, starting 27 games for the Portland Sea Dogs and putting up an ERA of 3.63.

He whiffed three NU batters (one of which is my former roommate), walked none and gave up one hit in two innings.

My former roommate had this to say about Johnson: “Really fluid. Ball snuck up on me really quickly.”

Will he get to Pawtucket this year? Looks like he is “getting it”.

He’ll probably start the year in Pawtucket. If he can get his curve going again, I think he’ll surprise a lot of people. Without it, hitters lay off it and he can’t seem to make it past the 4th-5th inning.

A 24 year old lefty at Pawtucket’s pretty good. Especially one coming off TJ surgery. I think he’ll definitely at least chew up a few innings for Boston in the next few years. He could end up as a nice #5 starter (not for Boston, obviously, unless he makes major strides)… but could become a nice lefty out of the bullpen for us too.
