Good post--except the title should be "and the Sox that excel at avoiding them."
I was expecting to see an article focusing on E6, not Kotsay, Ells, and Bay. . . .

Bay and Jeter are most surprising. I guess Jeter really isn't all that surprising, actually. It is his range that is lacking. He is, after all, one of the smartest players I have seen.

Devine,
I'm sure they will do that eventually, but no, not at the moment. This is a new statistic that was only recently just tracked.

Thank you for the info! Very interesting. Have they begun calculating DM for past years, does the book mention?

The chapter that I read on Defensive Misplays didn't have that info... if the book has a list of every player I'll post it when I get to that section. I'm just going chapter by chapter at the moment.

Great information. Demonstrates the amount of in depth consideration by the Sox in signing (or releasing) players.
Last year, when Billy Bean called Ellsbury the best defensive OF in baseball, he must have known something. It's good that J.Bay and M.Kotsay get some redemption here. Fenway Park's LF, and sharing LeftCenter with Ellsbury, can only make Bay better. Can you tell us how Youk, Ped, Lowrie, JD, Rocco made out, or must we buy the book?
