Fireside Chats #41: Where we find ourselves in the cellar looking up at the Os

Written on April 15th, 2009 by Tim Daloisio42430 Commentshttp://firebrandal.com/2009/04/15/fireside-chats-41-where-we-find-ourselves-in-the-cellar-looking-up-at-the-os.htmlFireside+Chats+%2341%3A+Where+we+find+ourselves+in+the+cellar+looking+up+at+the+Os2009-04-16+01%3A22%3A59Tim+Daloisio

The season certainly has taken a turn since we last talked with you all after an Opening Day win and that turn was not a good one. In fact, it was so bad, we now find ourselves in last place in the bizzaro world that is the American League East. But neither Paul nor I are ready to press the panic button, yet.

In today’s show, we lament the loss of Lowrie, blame the WBC for all things Matsuzaka, and Paul explains why he believes Josh Beckett did throw at Bobby Abreu and why a suspension is in order. We also look forward to the week ahead and talk a little O’s with Anthony Amobi of MVN’s Oriole Magic.

Lowrie to have surgery?

Written on April 15th, 2009 by Evan Brunell42412 Commentshttp://firebrandal.com/2009/04/15/lowrie-to-have-surgery.htmlLowrie+to+have+surgery%3F2009-04-16+00%3A07%3A01Evan+Brunell

No word on Jed Lowrie yet, but the fact that he’s seeking a FOURTH opinion in Baltimore today means that the prognosis doesn’t bode too well for him. I’d be surprised to hear anything less than wrist surgery that knocks him out for the year. The Herald has more. (H/T The Bottom Line)

BOS 8, OAK 2: Wakefield spins gem

Written on April 15th, 2009 by Shawn Medeiros42406 Commentshttp://firebrandal.com/2009/04/15/bos-8-oak-2-wakefield-spins-gem.htmlBOS+8%2C+OAK+2%3A+Wakefield+spins+gem2009-04-15+22%3A56%3A15Shawn+Medeiros

The scenario was reminiscent of Curt Schilling’s performance against the Oakland Athletics two years ago on June 7. Boston was in a funk. Oakland had a chance at sweeping the Red Sox at home for the first time in a four game set since May 19-21, 1932 when they played in Philadelphia. Schilling was called upon to halt the losing streak.

Mid-Week Minor League Round-up

Written on April 15th, 2009 by Ryne Crabb42392 Commentshttp://firebrandal.com/2009/04/15/mid-week-minor-league-round-up.htmlMid-Week+Minor+League+Round-up2009-04-15+20%3A00%3A42Ryne+Crabb

The first week of minor league baseball is under way. I am pleased to announce that we have yet to witness any serious injuries (knock on wood). Last year, there were some unfortunate injuries/illnesses to Anthony Rizzo, Nick Hagadone, and Austin Bailey. Coincidently, all of them happened in Greenville. This week hasn’t been the most eventful, but there has been quite a few surprises.

So get it done today, Wake. I just hope the knuckler, knuckels.
It is definitely early, and panic is not running through my mind.

OAK 6, BOS 5: Red Sox slide continues

Written on April 15th, 2009 by Shawn Medeiros42360 Commentshttp://firebrandal.com/2009/04/15/oak-6-bos-5-red-sox-slide-continues.htmlOAK+6%2C+BOS+5%3A+Red+Sox+slide+continues2009-04-15+06%3A34%3A23Shawn+Medeiros

Not only is Daisuke Matsuzaka’s arm fatigued, but Red Sox Nation is also after suffering through a 12 inning, four hour and 24 minute, 6-5 extra innings loss to Oakland.
